Of course the whole point of the game is you do whatever you want, and getting mad about a marketing drawing and complaining about rule changes shows these guys didn’t have the imagination to play DnD anyway. There’s nothing stopping anyone from killing monsters in their games

We did an experiment in college where we started the same campaign with groups of only men, only women, and a mix. The women’s group was the most creative and least combat focused.

I think WoTC likes making money and has found that more people will play their game if it’s not all killing monsters.

It's also just incoherent? The author says focusing more on romance than adventure (this is based on a single marketing image btw), D&D will lose its appeal to teens because teens hate sex now. But the entire premise of the piece is that there's more young people playing D&D.

Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

But it turns out that getting a bunch of business ghouls into drugs and new age metaphysics just makes those things uncool, not the other way around.
