I have a sneaking suspicion that Majority Leader Thune does not like Speaker Johnson very much.
Mike Johnson says he's talked to Thune & he's "very confident that when this moves forward in the process - if & when it is processed in the Senate, which is no certainty - they will take the time methodically to do what we have not been allowed to do in the House. They already had this, when they passed axing ACA credits. There's no ambiguity that Republicans did that and you can attack them for it. The marginal advantage of having another vote for messaging purposes is, at best, extremely thin, and even negative if it lets some Rs cast a meaningless yes vote

Don't know if anyone's written on this, but I am fascinated by how Mamdani is freed up politically bc he is an immigrant who cannot ever be president. So he's not caught up in that fantasy, nor trapped on the limited political path of imperialism and nationalism that requires (like Sanders & AOC)
It’s quite impressive how Mamdani has pulled almost every Dem into his coalition, not him into theirs. He keeps the door open for everyone but true enemies (Adams, Cuomo) & rather than try to extort a Hochul into a promise, he just puts her onstage & lets the popular will confront her. Amazing.

In 2023, NY contributed $89 billion more to the federal government than we received. Undocumented immigrants in NYC contributed $3 billion. So in theory we could just stop giving Republicans federal subsidies and pay for that marginal $18 billion in infrastructure directly and have a big surplus.
