This why you need people with practical life experience in positions of power. If you've had a white collar job you'll know the purpose of bureaucracy. From file naming conventions to good databases. It is the oil in the machine

My sister THE MAYOR OF BERKELEY hosted our family reunion so I made a shirt to explain my role in our familial unit.
See:
-The mayor gave a chartered bus tour of her city, then helped cook breakfast for 50 people while on a zoom.
-I found a decomposing wild turkey carcass & poked it with a stick.

Relatedly, I treasure Ingrid Pitt's story that during the filming of THE VAMPIRE LOVERS (1970), she found Peter Cushing in a quiet corner between takes, painting miniatures for his wargaming. It looked fun, so she joined him. I love the thought of them there in costume, chatting as they paint minis.
Every time I see some idiot on Twitter talk about what they think 'real masculinity' looks like, I remind them of Tamawashi (玉鷲), the Ironman of Sumo.
He loves baking cakes and cookies, cooks for his family, does embroidery, and said the happiest day of his life was when his kids were born.

I'd love it if someone with more musical talent than me, i.e. any, could produce a Tom Lehrer—Ozzy Osbourne anti-war song mash-up, in honour of their meeting at the pearly gates.

And it don't even gotta rhyme.
Excuse me, rhyne.

Laugh at mushy peas if it takes your mind off the self inflicted horrors, chet, but don't you fucking dare tell me my neighbours aren't as British as I am while your own neighbours get disappeared. That's the rhetoric of politicians here who would gleefully follow your country's example.

Finally watched “Sisu” last night.

A movie our times needs. The sort of insane brainless over the top war movie that you would expect from an Italian director in the 70s.

Really rip roaring anti-Nazi stuff

I know we talk about this constantly but it is truly one of the greatest mindfucks of my lifetime. as an 80s kid a Nazi was the most unambiguously, nonnegotiably evil thing you could even be ADJACENT TO, like morality for kindergarteners, and now we have to relitigate that shit every day???? ffs
need to invent a worse word for nazi bc ppl are not ashamed enough of being a nazi

my students in the last decade have become teachers, barristers, lawyers, civil servants, midwives, ICU nurses, journalists, accountants, academics, advertising execs, museum curators, TV producers… because we give them broad skills. If I had to train them to do *a job* they’d all be historians.
employers often complain about this to universities and: tough shit! don't whine that you can't be bothered to train your workers! do your job!
Some terminal Ted Talk Brain in the NYT today:
If it's true that millions of young people is not prepared for the workforce, we're probably going to need a more meaningful solution than teachers slightly changing the phrasing of their classroom instruction.
