I interviewed Deus Ex: Human Revolution's art director years ago and he said MGS2's stylised, minimalist environment textures were a big inspiration, which is particularly obvious in the FEMA facility level. Convinced they used the Big Shell as direct reference for this.

Having a great time revisiting Deus Ex: HR, but finding the gulf in quality between the environment art and the NPCs a lot more distracting than I did 14 years ago.
