@legendaryupside.bsky.social @patkerrane.bsky.social Don't know the best place to mention this but the walk through hasn't posted to the premium feed. You mentioned in the pod with Reebs it's done (otherwise I'd still be patiently waiting 😂)

What are some songs where you are Astounded when you look at the play count? These should all be at 100M+ but some haven't cracked 1 million.

Once you understand that a driving principle of American politics is there is no such thing as a compassionate solution that's cheap enough or a cruel solution that's too expensive, a lot of things click into place.
I think it's possible that Trump's illegal invasion of DC will really in some sense "get rid of the tents." If that happens, elite commentators will rush to praise him and attribute it to the effectiveness of cruelty, and not to the fact that they spent millions of dollars per tent cleared.

If you want a weird but true fact to talk about:

Dexter Holland, lead singer of The Offspring, was instrumental in this. His doctorial thesis in molecular biology was sequencing mRNA in HIV. The paper was also heavily cited in creating the COVID-19 vaccine.
It feels like we should be making a bigger deal of “we actually did in fact find a cure for AIDS”

Nunn is so committed to Iowa District 3 he didn't show up to the Ankeny Summerfest parade which is almost 10% of his district population
#IA03's Zach Nunn got his marching orders:
"Just spoke to Great Combat Veteran Zach Nunn, and he is committed to the mission of, HOLDING THE MAJORITY," Trump posted to his Truth Social website. "He is a team player, with a tremendous future — And 100% MAGA."

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.

This is pretty sick.

In JDK 25, the String::hashCode function in Java is improved to be mostly constant foldable, meaning the compiler can pre-compute the hash code at compile time when possible.

One pot recipes are the best - "Ready in 15 minutes" when that means 5 minutes to cook a pound of noodles with like 8 oz of liquid.

Is there some trick to cooking noodles very quickly without liquid?

Almost every time I end up tripling the liquid and the time it takes to cook.

I generally take this approach but I'd never heard it phrased in Nelly lyrics before, thanks for that.

In case y'all missed it - Utah Republicans ordered a study on transgender healthcare, expecting it to come back unsupportive.

Instead, it found that trans youth care was safe and effective, and that transgender youth need it.

Whoops.

Painful how accurate this is.
American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

A swing voter is not a centrist. It's like, a guy who loves guns but has a gay sister, loves weed but hates food stamps because his cousin who owes him 50 bucks gets them. (Also, Osama was Iraqi.) You don't win that guy with a carefully crafted platform, you do it by not seeming fucking lame
I really feel like more people need to constructively engage with this! You can think the moderation/centrism discourse is often braindead (as I do!) but the center left really needs a pretty robust convo about what winning, say, an Iowa or Kansas or Texas or Ohio senate seat would look like.
It’s because of the senate map

Sometimes I think about a poll during the 2016 election that ranked “corruption” as the top concern of voters. This was because this was a word Fox News used frequently with Hillary Clinton.

That word has mysteriously disappeared from the vocabulary of the American press this year.
