Google search sucks these days, so can Bluesky please crowd-surf me to someone intimately familiar with vintage dictionaries?

I dunno if it is woke or anti-woke, but this trend in art is annoying as hell. You cannot write worrying about your worst, stupidest reader without annoying all of your best readers.
I genuinely think this particular aesthetic trend (Good Art Is Didactic And Also Assumes You Are Very Stupid) is a non-trivial source of anti-woke backlash, like unironically. It is really really annoying, and I think it has provided wedges by which anti-wokes can radicalise nerds.
Reading a fiction book rn which is *so* obnoxiously didactic bc the author is *so* anxious you might draw the wrong political conclusion that it's making me anti-woke. Catch me on the Tim pool podcast

Met an active duty member of the military yesterday who filed conscientious objector paperwork in response to deployment of military on U.S. soil.

Was told multiple Army have filed, unknown quantities in other branches.

Every year I forget that that if you have to drive to a pride event you have to get there at like 8am and just hang out in the city till festivities start if you want to park anywhere remotely nearby

Let me be EXCEEDINGLY clear: the "round thing in your face" that gets you "sprung" in Baby Got Back is a woman's huge ass. I'm sick to death of seeing people on the timeline argue it's something else spherical or circular. This is the exact sort of erasure of women's huge asses Mix tried to address.

Wooooow.

Unbound/Boundless didn't have enough cash to pay their authors, but they did have enough to throw thousands at a Tory's leadership campaign.
I spotted it around the time on the Commons register of interest.

Here’s the archive publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm/cmregm...

And extrapolated from

Do you ever just think about how the average British person has no idea they live in one of the most ecologically devastated regions on the planet

The British Isles are supposed to be covered in *rainforest*! The climate is most similar to *Japan's*!

So, I think it's time I begin, in detailed specifics, talking about the mess that is Unbound / Boundless as a book publisher, in essence stealing most of a years royalties from me and many other authors, as a result of poor financial decisions, and legal BS.

Please read and share this thread.

my favourite genre of virtue scolding is when I get emails saying "I'd love to read your new book but I don't support Amazon, will there be any other way to get it?"

it's funny but when I would love to read a book, I generally look on my preferred non-Amazon platform *before* contacting the author.

I do not care how good of an editor or developer or salesperson you are, if you don’t have the business chops, you should never open a publishing house. Period. The end.
This keeps happening.

I'll be really simple with you: If you are insufficiently good at keeping books to ensure you always pay the royalties you owe you have no business starting a publishing house.
What fun to discover £7,000 of book royalties, due today, aren't actually going to be paid. Not today. Maybe not ever.

So now it's time for yet another round of "What Do I Tell My Mortgage Provider?", and a quick game of "How Do I Feed My Dog?"

Fuck you, publishing. What a turd of a profession.

Yesterday, I read a poem which referred to a telescope as a

'sight-invigorating tube'

I think this is delightful and want to see a similar approach used to name other items.

A cup might be a 'drink-bequeathing receptacle'
A brush could be a 'hair-enrapturing hedgehog.'

Feel free to jump in.
