One of the many things that makes Stancil a disingenuous hack is straw-manning random comments like this ad nauseum when his real argument-- "affordability isn't real" (literally, look at the thread)-- is so easily disproven by other data.
What drives me absolutely insane about this debate is how claims like “there has been a generational stagnation of purchasing power” have taken on the tenor of religious faith among progressives, and seemingly cannot be disproven with any evidence, no matter how overwhelming. It simply isn’t true!

Making "terminate Obamacare" your campaign message going into 2026 is a great strategy that has never been tried before. Now let's take a big sip of coffee and look at the 2018 House map.

Wild choice for an administration which is flouting the rule of law in so many different parallel situations to choose the one literally starving its constituents to say "yeah, we're gonna go by the book on this one."
Mike Johnson lies shamelessly: "The president is desperate for SNAP benefits to flow to the American citizens who desperately rely on it ... the SNAP situation has legal impediments."

Not surprising since Susan Collins rules their world, but it should embarrass the major Maine media outlets that they all got beat to this obvious, salient story by an out-of-state outlet. #MEpolitics

🚨 NEW AD! 🚨

Not for our election. But for the election next Tuesday.

Right wing billionaire Leonard Leo is pouring money into Question 1, which would shred absentee voting in Maine.

But our movement is fighting back.

So I see we're just gonna sprint right past the "agriculture modernization" pretext and straight into Holodomor. Got it

This. Build a new House Rotunda underground here, accessible via tunnel, to fit all the new reps. The old House chamber becomes the new Senate (if we still have one) and the old Senate becomes a public space.

again, I don't think theories like this are taking into account that Platner got started as the candidate of Maine organized labor because they have a terrible relationship with Mills
I don't fuckin trust him. I think he's a plant by the maine republicans to make the dems lose that seat. If he wins, he's going to vote like a republican. Like he's going to pull a ridiculous, bald-face 180 and not even care. They'll say what are we gonna do about it? They need to give him the boot.

The entire Platner situation is heartbreaking because a wide chunk of the Democratic electorate is desperate for someone who won't communicate in sentence-long conglomerations of phrases that have been focused grouped for years and wants that to pay off well, just once, and so far it hasn't.

Personally I’m less offended by Platner’s tattoo and the Reddit posts than by (1) the inability of the team to anticipate the issue and plan ahead and (2) the consultants who sought him out to do any vetting at all and built this working class populist image out of not much.

Mainers on bsky are going through it today so try to be a little understanding if we're feeling extra salty.

“Leftists need to be realistic, there is no perfect candidate”

Wanting candidates that don’t have N*zi tattoos isn’t asking for perfection.

Wanting candidates that don’t support genocide isn’t asking for perfection.

This is bare minimum stuff. Stop settling & calling it wisdom.

Obama's America and its shadow—Jeffrey Epstein's America—was once history's dead-end.

The right saw those days as exclusive & woke. The left considered the culture stagnant.

For better or worse, we're unstuck now & change is happening very fast.

Seriously, WTF? Are we just that hard up for younger progressive candidates in Maine?
Evidently candidates are not vetted anymore before they announce they’re running for office.

Platner should definitely fuck off the political stage, but my real beef is with whatever incompetent doofus "vetted" him.

You brought in Mamdani's people without bothering to ask a Marine vet about any problematic tattoos? What the fuck are we even doing
