What is a writer?
A miserable little pile of words!

Fiction attempted, with various levels of success.
Yes, I do need help, thank you for noticing.

This is where I'll — maybe? — be complaining about the process of writing, and my aptitude — or lack thereof — for it, as well as posting updates about the occasional fiction I manage to trick my brain into writing.

Not sure yet how active I'll be here, since social media are... tricky.

server I helped run at one point had these rules

A) No politics. Lots of people use this space as a way to get away from the stress of politics.
B) Statements like these are allowed (list of leftist positions) these are morals, not politics.

Nazis always self-reported.
Scare Nazis; be openly leftist. Tell your chat how much you love the idea of UBI for all and how much you hate ICE. Be loudly anti-bigotry. Put captions on your stream.

Seriously. I have no regrets going down this path myself. It's been great.
There are streamers with "No politics" rules that usually means either you can be a piece of shit as long as you're quiet or it mirrors my views

Even those who don't have spoons to deal with politics, it allows bad actors in as long as they are quiet about it

Curate your space before it goes sour

Hahaha, right?! Or what about mandatory disclosures for the discrepancy between the salaries of the CEO and their lowest paid worker? That would be so funny, right?! Let’s do it as a funny joke!!!

tldr, it's not writers. studio execs are greedy, know nothing leeches who wouldn't know how to make money if it bit them in the ass. imagine throwing away a sequel to crazy rich asians over less than 4 percent of the projected gross. are you fucking kidding me.

adele lim found out her co writer pete chiarelli was getting TEN TIMES her contract for the second film. she was offered 100k, he was offered a million dollars.

she walked, rightfully! and the film is still delayed

so to save a million bucks, warner bros lost out on a sequel to a huge hit

and even if you are an established writer from a huge breakout hit...

I was in crazy rich asians. behind the scenes I spoke to the producers about their hopes for the film. they were all terrified the movie was gonna flop. one producer told me in his wildest dreams they might make 40, 50 million
uh oh!!!!

here I was hoping maybe I could find narrative/writing work outside of games since there’s like no work inside of it right now but it seems like it’s shit all over!

As someone who works on the interaction layer of software: it's this.

Stupid trends in hardware self correct after a generation or two, but *software* ratchets in the direction of unusable because designers are occupied with interaction patterns and not whether the fucking thing works properly.
i think it's useful to look at areas where the *tech* has gotten much better while tech *interactions* have gotten way worse. streaming has gotten worse, google search has gotten worse, digital cameras are leaps better. apple's silicone is so good it's threatening their user upgrade cycle
it’s so weird to look around and realize like, tech and media are materially worse than a decade ago

but this? shut the fuck up. guess what, my man, gorgeous young 22 year olds like to fuck. And queer people deserve love stories that are sexy and horny. a "chaste kiss" please be for real.

This is madness.

To clarify: this is the 2025 version, which means it has geopolitical updates through 2024. Which is what makes it especially relevant.
This book has been so soothing. I have probably learned more about the foreign policies that shape the world just in the first three chapters than I have in at least the last 15 years of news media. 🙃 It's helped clarify a lot of the absolutely batshit nonsense of the current timeline. COMFORT READ
