The whole article is repulsive but this passage is at the core of it. She has no interest in writing books, she wants to win some kind of competition that nobody entered

My first and only creative dispute on Death of the Outsider came when I pushed for a moment of ma after Billie kills The Outsider. I thought it was important that she (and players) had a few beats to process what they'd done and how they felt about it
My piping hot take on PLURIBUS is that it’s one of the most Ghibli-esque shows on TV today, and people who think its pacing is too slow ought to really sit with and examine why they feel that slow pace = bad.

Its first season has several minutes worth of “mā”, and is much stronger for it, IMO

Finished reading The Game Writing Guide by @annamegill.com. Fantastic advice + insights here that I think is genuinely helpful for finding work in game dev!

If you're not in the writing niche within games, I still think there's value in this book wrt interviews, portfolios, career development, etc.

Without naming your job, tell me something you say over and over again at work.

"I have a few notes..."
"Without naming your job, tell me something you say over and over again at work."

Stop. Back up. You just came through that door. No don't look at that, you know that's there. Look at the ground. They always look at the ground. Now, what does the player see? What do they understand right now?

I think it's perfectly understandable that many people feel a deep sense of resentment and disenfranchisement for the time capitalism has stolen from them, but the answer is not to embrace capital's machine that pretends to show you an inner life you aren't having.

I'm relearning this lesson with my new crochet hobby. I crochet for the act of doing it--the joy of it--not because I especially need a bunch of badly engineered blankets
A small but very deep thing that bothers me about generative AI as a shortcut to practice and work and skill is the basic assumption that it’s impossible to take pleasure in a creative pursuit that you aren’t very good at and I assure you that is not the case

I'm sick over the destruction of the Post. My hometown paper. Reading the Books section every week was a touchstone of my youth and directly led to my becoming a writer. I'll miss it forever

the $75 million Jeff Bezos set on fire for that Melania propaganda piece could have funded most independent newsrooms for literally decades
always bears repeating that this is NOT a financial decision. jeff bezos is worth over 250 billion dollars. he can afford to lose many millions and never even notice it. this is, at its core, a political and personal decision by bezos to destroy the post
WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington Post says one-third of its staff across all departments, not just the newsroom, is being laid off.
