This last week is a real demonstration of how capacious, yet flattened the word "violent" is in our political discourse. Political assassinations are obviously, clearly violent. But the same word has been used all week to describe protestors damaging objects--not people, objects.

They used to hire humans to do these things, there’s a character in New Girl who’s bit is he’s constantly doing menial garbage like this. It’s easy to think “oh this is just busy work” but it’s work that we used to value, and gave you the opportunity to be exposed to different perspectives.
