Hi new followers, guess it's time for a new intro post. I’m David, been working as indiedev ~15 years, made a few games, I like coding my own frameworks in SDL/C++. More "recently" I've been doing contract work using Unity/GM2 etc for consoles, so been vverry slowly working on my own new game.
I prefer the All-Stars name, especially now with tons of Mario games it feels more unique and distinct
In Japan ‘Super Mario All-Stars’ is called ‘Super Mario Collection’. Via the Nintendo Leaks some examples of different treatments for the title screen were found.

for some reason while we are closing in on the PlayStation 5 6th anniversary, it feels like it just launched? I dunno why I can't shake that feeling. that's probably why when I hear about PS6 chatter already it feels weird.

loved this video, Jan, now 91 has been a Zelda fan for a long time and has an amazing game collection, all those great condition boxed games and Nintendo Power magazines!!
Meet Jan: A 91-Year-Old Zelda Superfan
Meet Jan. She’s 91 years old, a lifelong gamer, and a massive Zelda superfan. I spent the day hanging out with her, digging through her incredible Nintendo collection, walking through decades of Zelda history, and even playing some games together. From the NES, to the SNES, to the N64, to the GameC

Slack interface/UX is so bad/sluggish that it makes me like way more when I have to use Discord instead. I dunno how companies are using that thing at large scale.

Interesting video about recreating an incredibly rare (~60 units?) official N64 controller pak that allows to play Ice Climber on Animal Crossing

Easy to forget but adding your Unity project folder to Windows Defender exceptions helps a tons with small recompile, accessing files etc, you might be waiting even more extra time due to that.

This was Uproot Galaxy, a metroidvania with Mario Galaxy & Mario 2 influences. It was canceled 2 years ago after our publisher ran out of money. I'm making this previously internal pre-alpha trailer public because everyone involved has long since moved on...

I hadn't noticed since I barely use Google, but I still see StackOverflow results in DuckDuckGo searches, Google seems to return less hits. But I would need to search wider range of topics have proof. It was mostly Unity searches which it seems to direct more to Unity forums (understandable)

Summer of 84 is clearly a kids-in-bikes-Goonies-inspired movie but in the suspense/crime/thriller genre. It never pretends to be more or less than it sets out to accomplish so it ends up being a good watch; I was positively surprised as a had this suggested as “your type of bad low budget B movie”.

extremely hacky but had this idea of a desktop widget where you send ducks to a dungeon run and have a nest near the clock when they live; kinda silly but fun, have to consider if I want to invest more time on this or let it die as a fun weekend experiment.

I think the reason why so many devs are still drawn to C or "idea of C" is eventually everyone want a change of pace, simpler times with no fancy editors, tons of software, or gigantic stack of per-existing frameworks to consider; just you, a KB and a blank canvas to type code. you'll get there.

I've been running an indie games studio for 15 years now, and it felt like a good time to boil down what I've learned into 4 pieces of advice:

I hope it's of use, not least because goddamn I forgot how long blog posts take to write.

Nintendo is launching new Joycon 2 colors but I wish they would do the whole controller, not just the side, this is barely a change. When attached to switch we can’t see it, and when detached just having colored straps would do the trick.

I'm not surprised at all. My bet is many players end up buying games on Steam they got for free on Epic Store but forgot about it. It's a service thing, same reason why many years ago Steam made buying games more interesting/less effort than pirating. www.reddit.com/r/dat...
