Hi new followers, guess it's time for a new intro post. I’m David, been working as indiedev ~15 years, made a few games, I like coding my own frameworks in SDL/C++. More "recently" I've been doing contract work using Unity/GM2 etc for consoles, so been vverry slowly working on my own new game.
Finally watched John Wick 4 (been purposely delaying since someone ruined me the ending) and I just wanna say wow *THAT SCENE* top down view. Always think of Constantine as one of the best in this type, and seems fate it would be Keanu Reeves again to top that. And inspired by a videogame too.

Finished Metroid Prime 4, I like the game, and it starts to get mechanically more interesting towards end but I maintain my previous comment that it’s trying to be many different things with not enough glue. But I’m sure they can tweak that for Metroid Prime 5, just hope it doesn’t take as long.

Metroid seems to always do the “oh you’re having fun? Let’s escalate difficulty by 1000% with a boss fight like nothing else in the game yet”. It’s probably why I start a lot of them but only ever finished Metroid Dread so far.

When you don’t agree with the reviews your game got and go to journalists/youtubers websites complain they are playing it wrong

I traded some Nintendo platinum points for this calendar to put on my work desk and it’s pretty cool, a different picture each month.

Malcolm in the Middle is getting a mini-series 19 years later, oh wow even in a small teaser it's like they never left. I loved this show.

We always think of so much of old stuff as being pre-baked to save compute, but "assemble it on the fly" saves so much space. I'm reminded of how the Amiga does its "insert disk" animation as vectors rather than a pre-made animation.

Most people know the PS1 boot sound, but I'm not sure as many know that the sound is not actually pre-recorded but just 3 simple samples being mixed, playback at different speeds and generated at runtime to produced the final output.
Playstation Startup Sound Explained
This is a short breakdown of the original Sony Playstation's iconic startup sound. There is a quick addendum to this video showing the audio samples being played in a software synthesizer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7gV6RdIeUQ The original composition and sound samples were created by Takaf

As a kid I asked my parents for Super Probotector (Contra 3 in Europe) and they got me Sim City (SNES) for xmas. I was disappointed and it took me a long time to understand that actually it was a much better game for my type of personality and I still enjoy playing it today.
When I was a tiny child I asked my parents for Final Fantasy 7 for Christmas. I wrote down the name of the game with roman numerals for maximum accuracy.

However, I wrote the wrong roman numerals so my parents bought FF8, which was brand new, had gotten mixed reviews and didn’t run well on my PC..

I’m 10h in Metroid Prime 4 and I’m enjoying it, however it tries (so far) to be almost 3 different games, and the balance-glue is not quite there, but that means MP5 could be pretty good once they iterate over feedback. But I dig it, it’s good.

China's High Speed Rail network has now surpassed 50,000 KM in length after opening 4 new lines. The country plans to hit 60,000 KM by 2030.

Spain is the #2 country in HSR length, with approx 5,000 KM.

Map below is a year out of date but shows how the network has evolved since 2008.

It’s been years since people started leaving Twitter, and once a while a few wave of new users shows up; it’s always interesting to read what was the new change “oh so that’s what finally took some people to search alternatives?”, because it’s been kinda bad for a long time now.

I can guaranteed you (101% sure) this will work slower/worse than existing Run dialogue. Microsoft is hell bent of breaking every single Windows component. Orrr … engineers are desperate to justify their work position by coming up with extremely visible “features” so they aren’t replaced by AI.
