Hi new followers, guess it's time for a new intro post. I’m David, been working as indiedev ~15 years, made a few games, I like coding my own frameworks in SDL/C++. More "recently" I've been doing contract work using Unity/GM2 etc for consoles, so been vverry slowly working on my own new game.
I now got emails from Google Play & Amazon to update mobile apps with age check until January 2026 because Texas, Utah & Louisiana passed age verification law. But why do I have to implement this instead of Stores being the gatekeepers checking age? Where are the 30% fees going to, makes no sense.

Started learning Unreal ~2 weeks ago (had never eveven opened) and don't feel as lost anymore, has it's peculiarities but it's neat. I don't imagine being very productive on this in short term but it's more of a slow long term investment for another skill on my list, so I decided to just... start.

re-watched Constantine last night, this movie is now 20 years old but still probably one of the best DC movies.

So GTA6 got delayed again, until Nov 2026, that’s fine. But at this point I imagine the team is already in crunch mode, which means it’s another year on that. I don’t imagine they’ll go “we got another year slow down”, there’s been a couple delays.

Omg the new Nintendo App allows checking our play time on 3DS and Wii U games! This another thing I really miss on Switch, 3DS/Wii U had the time log built in which was great.

Get ready for the next culling wave as Apple phases out Rosetta 2, the emulation layer that is allowing Intel compiled games/apps to run on the silicon Mac chips. I imagine that will probably be around same time they remove GL support (which ton of games/software still use)

this is an interesting read because there are always people having success and a multitude of them having a hard time. But reading this I learned the term "friend-slop genre" and I hate it, let's find something else? there's good and bad games in every genre. howtomarketagame.com...

Sometimes when I'm compiling heavy projects, it might even stop music from playing, small occasional hiccups (spotify, plexamp, etc even blocks Discord calls) however that doesn't happen with Winamp. I think because those web-apps using some JS process that needs more CPU time than given.

Considering how big YouTube is I imagined revenue % would be higher but it’s around 10% of all Google/Alphabet; and maintenance costs of the servers must be high. The *scarier* thought here is Google could kill that service and still be ok. But for all those creators it would be a catastrophe.

It may not sound much but it’s a good milestone to celebrate, Linux usage for games/Steam has been steadily climbing since 2018.

It finally happened. Linux gamers on Steam as of the Steam Hardware & Software Survey for October 2025 have crossed over the elusive 3% mark.

Interesting comments on this thread regarding fixed vs delta time logic code in games.
Do smaller indies/devs still prefer to work in a fixed framerate? It used to be prevalent in my circles. I felt like not many were working with delta timing, which I guess makes more sense if you're actually working at a pixel resolution for the codebase as well
