i'm basically approaching 2026/28 as the Left's United 93 election. if we don't try to take the plane back they're gonna crash it, and a lot of the stuff you have taken for granted for basically your entire life (e.g. the civil rights acts) will go away.

if that's not enough to convince em....
@sky.skymarchini.net This is only tangentially related, but do you have any strategies in mind for encouraging progressives and anyone who can be swayed to vote for a more Left-leaning candidates to actually show up for the midterms and the 2028 elections?

Hell not just the wealthy. The US middle class got mad that they had to start paying their burrito taxi drivers real wages.
One of the keys to understanding Trumpism is that his wealthier supporters are happy if his policies make them less well off, so long as they enable them to have servents. Yeah sure your washing machine lo longer works but now you have an abusable teenager to put the washing on the line for you.
Lethbridge’s excellent book on SERVANTS discusses the abuse in less distressingly personal terms - remember housemaids were routinely as young as 12, and paid virtually nothing. The end of servant culture in the UK (and the relative lack of it in the US) was a great blessing.

As someone who has had a military VIP treatment, VIP means "hey you don't have to hot rack"
I’d like to think a “VIP experience” of the military consists of trapping a Wall Street executive on a field exercise with a private that lost his helmet and body armor the first night and a 3 time divorced SSG who does nothing but tell you about his custody battles for a week straight.
Giving political donors “dedicated VIP experiences” with the US military is not only corrupt, it will damagingly make Americans think of our military as partisan. Congress should prevent this.

can someone explain to me why these guys are so obsessed with Biden’s decline to the point that they’re ignoring the even-more-severe decline of the current president?

What I like about this essay is that it forthrightly disclaims any interest in electability concerns or political pragmatism.

This is how I remember politics being done in my youth — progressive intellectuals would say stuff and people engaged in electoral politics would ignore them.
I wrote something you can point to whenever someone tries to bludgeon you will issue polling
“If you simply surrender your principles in advance, because you’re afraid that association with you will sink Democratic politicians, then what on Earth are we even hoping to elect Democratic candidates to do?” www.liberalcurrents.com/just-make-yo...

if the Democrats suggested last year that Trump intended to let his billionaire donors personally run the federal government over Signal the New York Times would have had four separate front-page stories outraged about it

Having a servant be even implicitly disrespectful to their station causes acute psychic damage to American rich people and I think that's a really underrated dynamic in why they went so insanely off the rails under Biden's economy and worked to tank it.

As I've said multiple times I think the ruling class's distress at the 2021-23ish economy was really reliant on that last category. You're super rich but suddenly you have to hire the immigrant nanny instead of the white au pair. The country club has to start hiring waiters with tattoos. Etc etc.

the Republican party benefits from the existence of self-censoring facts: things which, if true, would require the press to abandon partisan neutrality as immoral. as this would offend the publisher's sensibilities, they cannot be true.
As I’ve noted before, the press is unwilling to recognize that Musk and Vance are at the very least close to neo-Nazis because to do so would mean acknowledging that the press massively failed in promoting them for years
the vice president of the united states is a groyper who spends his online time following nazis and esoteric reactionary influencers is true and yet the press seems completely disinterested in it

Bloomberg and (to my surprise) Axios launched Project 2025 trackers this week, connecting Trump's moves to the wildly unpopular manifesto. This is a really good opportunity for Democrats to run riot over this already plowed and seeded terrain and keep their grip on the Project 2025 narrative.

Perhaps you should save $4.50 by drinking the water that comes out of your sink.
like, bear with me, but maybe the actual problem is that ordering a water costs $4.50 from a fast food restaurant, and not that sometimes you get bottled water with lunch

And underrated aspect of the election was that no Dem politician will ever again want to touch policies that might be inflationary. Given the option of 6% inflation or 10% unemployment Americans have decisively stated that they prefer the unemployment.
