No response, lol

Austin simply changed its zoning laws in 2022 and rent has dropped 7.5 each year since.
September 5, 2025 at 12:10 AM
It's 2025, they dropped even more from the 2024 price.

Anyway you've dodged the question, how are you getting the power to implement your dream?
September 4, 2025 at 11:53 PM
With nothing but a policy change Austin rents have dropped 7.5% each year, they're now below pre pandemic levels.

Unlike your fantasy that you have no way of accomplishing
September 4, 2025 at 11:49 PM
Cool let me know when you get the political power that would let you nationalize housing and "abolish landlords". Meanwhile in the real world cities like Austin have allowed more building of units and rent has fallen
September 4, 2025 at 11:39 PM
Yup. The best way to make landlords have less power is by reducing the scarcity of their assets. You'd think leftist inclined people would be all over this.
September 4, 2025 at 11:07 PM
"Hey this policy is actually bad for everyone, all the experts agree"

*unhinged ranting*

it happens everything you discuss rent control
September 4, 2025 at 10:55 PM
Literally every economist, slat water, freshwater, etc agrees that rent control is the second worst thing to do to a city after bombing. Yet it won't die
September 4, 2025 at 4:23 PM
A Hallmark of leftism seems to be screaming that the guy 1% to the right of you is actually a conservative.
September 3, 2025 at 6:17 PM
One of the big reasons I'm a YIMBY is they're one of the few groups on the left that have managed to actually achieve some goals the past 5 years.
September 3, 2025 at 12:34 AM
Do I think it's cringe? Yes.

Do I think it brings a good chance of winning? Also yes.

If the American public did not want to be treated this way they should not have voted the way they did the past decade.
September 2, 2025 at 8:07 PM
Lol this comment on the Yglesias index immediately proved it right.
September 2, 2025 at 5:03 PM
He's still angry tweeting about Biden despite Trump being president for half a year now.
September 2, 2025 at 3:37 PM
Nate is the premier example of how rich Americans had never had any authority figures limit their lives for decades, and thus went nuts when the government said "hey, real bad plague out there, maybe stay inside for a bit".
September 2, 2025 at 3:36 PM
something that happened to low class girls who were "asking for it" . America only finally started to clamp down on sexual harassment / assault when they realized the middle / upper class "good girls" were constantly dealing with it from men from the same classes. (2/2)
September 2, 2025 at 3:34 PM
Having posted some negative comments about meToo, I'd now like to start that meToo was absolutely warranted and Zoomers cannot conceive of the pre meToo world. Probably it's biggest accomplishment was making people aware harassment was not just (1/?)
September 2, 2025 at 3:32 PM
One of the takeaways from me too was that Hollywood was the exception in harassment, not every industry was that horrifyingly bad.
September 2, 2025 at 3:30 PM
It's why almost all dating has moved to apps. Those are the one and only place where you have absolute consent to flirt.
September 2, 2025 at 3:27 PM
Again I am not supporting work place harassment. But also Americans need to loosen up a bit.
September 2, 2025 at 3:22 PM
There's something i call the Yglesias index. MattY wrote multiple articles to get people to vote for Bernie. IRL he is left of 95% of Americans. On here he is a fascist conservative.

The Yglesias index states that anyone incapable of admitting mattY is left wing can be safely ignored.

Even if you successfully ask your coworker out for dinner and they are happy to be asked and interested, there is a risk someone else saw and is not happy. Risk reward ratio means this never happens anymore.
September 2, 2025 at 3:17 PM
The much higher social cost of a misstep + everyone has a camera in their pocket are to blame for the decline: bsky.app/profile/midn...
This corresponded with the rise of "cancel culture", previously you had to do something pretty bad for damage to occur to your career, now you could be recorded at any given time straying slightly over standard colleague interactions and find your professional prospects diminished.
