I love that new #transit smell!

Getting a press tour of #Montréal’s new REM line this morning. Starting at Edouard-Montpetit station.

A clean, light, modern édicule (entry kiosk). And there’s parking for my bicycle…

"Everyone - whether driving, walking or cycling has a role to play in keeping our community safe."
-Mayor Andrea Horwath

My question is simple: What about those who design, approve, build and maintain hostile road design? Do they have a role?
A crossing guard was killed by the driver of a dump truck yesterday. absolutely heartbreaking.
Look at our intersections, look how hostile these are for people/children - this is what we continue to build and defend at all costs. These aren't accidents, these are results. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

This is a major bus stop/future BRT bus stop 3 or 4 days after a storm last February. That’s the norm on Herring Cove Road. People will not make the switch from driving to transit if they’re going to be subjected to this.

I’ve been taking my wheelchair to a work event for the first time this week. It’s in town, so I’ve been able to use my trike to transport it on an almost-continuous bike path from the far north end to the waterfront.

There’s joy in having these mobility aids & infrastructure to help me use them.

The feds increased health spending in the last decade by a HUGE %, which none of the provinces matched. The feds provided large lump sum top-ups.... which the provinces "lost". The feds offered more money as long as the provinces promised to spend it on health care - the provinces rejected it
This is your occasional reminder that provinces have the ability to raise their own revenues to fund the services in their fucking jurisdictions, but we have normalized letting them cry poor and blaming the federal government.
Budget signals lower increases to health transfers, end of funding deals
OTTAWA - The federal budget signals there is no room for the premiers to negotiate for more health-care funding in coming years, one economist says, as the Ontario government calls

Last anti fascist counter protest I attended I tried something new with my new megaphone: speak to onlookers entertainingly to inform them what is happening, who the cops are protecting, and making fun and encouraging random folks to make fun of the fascists.

If we designed roads for cars in the same way we design bike paths, we'd never have to worry about speeding again. Problem solved.

Halifax. Where you cant ride a bike/scooter/etc on the road, but you also cant ride them on the sidewalk, but you also cant ride them on the designated bike lane. 🙃

But getting more people to ride bikes is also one of our top priorities.

I'm so tired of "We had no choice but to vote Liberal".

1. Carney is Harper 2.0 and is only a "centrist" because repeatedly voting lesser evil has moved everything so far to the right.

2. "Everyone must vote Liberal" handed at least 8 seats to the Cons at the expense of NDP or Green incumbents.

That drivers are out here running stop signs and red lights while looking at the phones they’re holding in front of their faces and this isn’t treated like a crisis, but Halifax council spent the summer debating the cost of bike lanes as though that is… it’s fucking bananas.

Pesky e-bike riders delivering food to people should be ticketed... @tps.ca there appears to be a double standard here because stopping in for some Jerk King, although delicious is not actively responding to an emergency.

The use of the lights here, while clever, is certainly inappropriate.

Can you listen politely? Can you accept that sometimes good people have views you don't share?

If you scored at least 50% on the preceding quiz, you're overqualified to be a Halifax Police Commissioner.
Wondering if you're qualified?

One of the last police commissioners sneered and made fun of public input on how they were policed.

If you could thoughtfully listen to and consider what residents have to say, you're more qualified than they were.

Go for it!
Want to be a Halifax Police Commissioner? Applications for that, and dozens of other local board and committee roles, are open now.

It's not that every individual driver is a murderous asshole (I'm not!). It's that car dependency as a whole is dangerous. It's that cars are deadly when they hit people. It's that our society prioritizes drivers above all else. It's about a system that is dangerous for anyone not in a car.
