hall of fame legal AI moment:

a judge figures out that someone's court submission was generated using AI because it cites "a wholly imaginary judgment for which the plaintiff claims that I am the author."

The adamant elite refusal to call bullshit is a big part of How We Got Here.

The prevailing cultural attitude for years is you must not, under any circumstances, treat anything as bad faith. You are obligated to find some reasonable idea and engage with that, even if you distort to get there.

I have just seen my third news item with people saying "well sure crime is way down but if you tell people who are scared of crime that fact, you'll alienate them" and this can only be some sort of society wide, generational failing.

Rowling's 24/7 commitment to being an absolute nightmare ghoul is sort of extraordinary. She has every option in the world for how to spend her life and she commits herself entirely to hatred and self-righteous mean-spiritedness; some are more effective at evil but nobody puts in the hours like her.

World Athletics says that "The SRY gene is a reliable proxy for determining biological sex." The guy who literally discovered the gene and has spent the last 35 years researching it says they're wrong. theconversation.com/world-athlet...
World Athletics’ mandatory genetic test for women athletes is misguided. I should know – I discovered the relevant gene in 1990
World Athletics says its genetic test for women ensures ‘the integrity of women’s sport’ – but science does not support this overly simplistic idea.

Gonna be contrarian and say she lost because Joe Biden refused to step down until well into normal campaign time; because Joe Biden facilitated an expensive and unpopular genocide; and because DNC consultants are wildly incompetent.

I don’t buy that a Black woman isn’t electable, actually
In my heart, I believe that Kamala lost bc she’s a Black woman. The campaign made some grievous errors, but a white male candidate would have survived. I think about that about once every hour these days. All of this hell visited on us, it’s bc of that original sin.

the problem with letting democrats backslide their support of trans rights whether it be trans in sports or using bathrooms is we’ve seen “compromise” in the UK labor party. they gave into “reasonable” TERF demands and it destroyed the labor party and all rights for trans people

also, the utterly circular reasoning about police and crime in the media drives me nuts. crime went down? must be the cops, give them more money. crime went up? need more money for cops

A crime/horror where a group of people are invited to an abandoned convent and gradually picked off as they are replaced by new converts to the order. And Then There Were Nuns.

SPACESUIT FACT: We laugh at the meanly named blobfish (psychrolutes marcidus) because of his looks in the left photo, here above sea level. But in his home habitat at 60-120x the pressure a la the right hand photo, this guy looks normal.

So on the left, that's you in zero pressure without a suit.

Lia’s story is so fucking clear if you actually give a shit. She was a good swimmer before transitioning, she had a miserable season while transitioning (mandated by the NCAA), then she had a good season after transitioning. Case closed.
This is also the status quo for sports: Competitive leagues already have standards in place for eligibility. Lia Thomas, for example, met the NCAA requirement of being on hormones for a year before competing. The right didn't give a shit.
