“The media isn’t covering this” is a statement about your own media diet. Yes, I am painfully aware that legacy outlets have the biggest audiences. It is good to criticize their coverage. But I would love to see even a fraction of that energy directed to helping smaller outlets gain bigger audiences

Thing is: this should have been obvious BEFORE regulators greenlit Waymo.

Having business be the tail that wags the dog of government--as neoliberal ideology would have it--simply privatizes gains and sticks ordinary people with the costs of being corporate guinea pigs.
Autonomous vehicles that are unable to adapt to emergencies present a risk to our public safety. With such vehicles being considered for deployment in the East Bay, more must first be done to ensure they will operate safely when the unexpected happens.

Read @soleilho.com's interview with Gina Cargas, a librarian at SFUSD who is collecting vinyl records to create a 'listening station' for her middle school students.

"Libraries have shifted a lot in the last 10 years...It's not a silent space. Which I think is, in many ways, for the best."

Gina Cargas reached out to the community about collecting records for her middle school students. The response was overwhelming.

In case you missed this on Friday, at @unbreaking.org we updated our trans healthcare explainer with a timeline (100+ events) and a totally rewritten explainer (20k words, 150+ footnotes) to help people understand the many diverse attacks on gender affirming care, and where they currently stand:

If you told me this was part of the M3GAN movie I would 10000% believe you.
if this was me at a public event mourning my spouse who was violently murdered my kids would either have me committed or never speak to me again

Two things that would never happen at a men's national championship game: a random coach singing the national anthem, and flower shaped confetti dropping on the winners.

That's the Texas A&M we've seen this tournament. Hello! Welcome to the match.

Okay am I just misremembering? Waak doesn't usually wear that big knee brace, she's usually in a leg sleeve but not such a clear brace right? She looks like she's not as confident moving around this match.

I have maintained all season and will continue to maintain that Molly Tuozzo is underrated.

I would genuinely read the story about how the fuck Ulmer *actually* wound up singing the national anthem just now. Truly wild, and he was (sorry to this man) not good. Does someone hate him? Did someone lose a bet? Did the scheduled singer back out???

Programming note: For the next ~2 hours I'm going to be posting about the women's volleyball championships.

LMAO letting Matt Ulmer (Kansas's vb coach) do the national anthem is so unserious.

I cannot tell you just how *tremendously hard* various volunteers have worked on this massive @unbreaking.org update: sifting through awful, terrible news every single day, identifying connections and themes, all to build a clear picture of the harm the federal government’s caused.

I didn't get to watch any of the volleyball yesterday so I'm going to catch up today. Just peeked at the scores and holy wow.

On a personal note, this page is something I've been working on and wrangling for months (along with a team of folks at Unbreaking). It's not a fun read, but I think it does a good job of explaining the lay of the land and what is happening.
Today at @unbreaking.org we have a big update to our page on transgender healthcare. A TIMELINE!!! And the explainer has been rewritten to be clearer and easier to follow (if not any less soul crushing).

If you need a primer on all the ways this administration is attacking gender affirming care:
