I swore an oath to the Constitution in 1986. I've upheld it through 25 years of service and every day since I retired.

If Trump's trying to intimidate me, it won’t work. I’ve given too much to our country to be silenced by bullies who care more about power than the Constitution.

You have to keep giving money to avoid collapse and if there’s collapse you have to give more money. It’s called the free market.

I know young Marines who hit the Fleet at the very end of OEF and talk about feeling like they missed the wars, and I tell them there were Marines just like them who joined in 1945 and ended up painting rocks at the new Camp Pendleton, not knowing a few years later they'd be at Chosin Reservoir.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

LOAC is about two things: creating space for a lasting peace when the fight’s over, and more importantly, ensuring that when your own troops come home they don’t spend the rest of their lives looking in the mirror and seeing a monster look back at them.
The laws of war are not mere niceties. They are lessons from centuries of blood agreed upon to keep the world more stable.

Violating them isn’t hero cop who cuts through red tape to get things done, it’s psycho cop who crosses lines in ways even the rule benders find appalling and must be stopped.

We have money beyond comprehension.

The world uses our currency as the backup plan when everything else goes to shit.

We have done ungodly production theoughput.

We have innovated our way to the fucking moon.

And now we are relying on another country to feed our military.
NEW: The US Army website for its bases in Bavaria, Germany told its soldiers and employees that it might need to obtain free food from the German government during the US government shutdown.

The Army later altered publication to remove a list of food banks, but we have the original text here:
US Army Tells Soldiers to Go to German Food Bank, Then Deletes It
The initial 'Shutdown Guidance' for the US Army Garrison Bavaria included instructions to go to German food banks.

Remind me how Iraq 2003 turned out? Wasn’t like a triangle of death or anything right? Certainly not a bunch of score settling and ethnic cleansing that impacted US policy priorities, global standing, force design, and killed a bunch of people, right?

I'm a firm believer of "there were never any good old days," just your nostalgia.

Also, my dad was not about the weird nerd shit I was in to- he liked cowboys and WWII planes. But when I got into Pokemon, dragonlance, magic the gathering, star wars, video games... He did, too.
Another one:

"They don't make music like we had in our day!"

Guess what, Sport... your parents hated your shit, too. Said it was garbage. EVERY generation does this.

Just let them have their fun. 🙄 Maybe try listening to it? You may like it.

You know what would reduce food assistance use? Increasing the federal minimum wage to a living wage and stop subsidizing business indirectly.

Fine, I'll say it.

The vast majority of nutritional assistance (SNAP, WIC, EBT) are federal subsidies administered by states for shitty employers.

States transfer costs to the federal government so that businesses don't have to pay a living wage.

John Roberts and his miserable excuse for a high court of justice are presiding over a great disassembling of the United States and the rare American experiment in government by its people. It began with Citizens United and it continues relentlessly. This is a second civil war in slow motion.

SNAP is not the reason your taxes are high.

SNAP recipients don’t need to “just go get a job”.

Most of them work. The rest are disabled, elderly, children or caregivers.

People need & deserve assistance

Your taxes fund wars and tax cuts for the ultra rich

Be mad about that

THE KEY POINT that is critical for everyone to understand: the United States is not “out of money”—the Treasury has plenty—the government is shut down because there is *no legal authority to spend it*

checks from private donors do not change that fact
Consider:

A billionaire would not have had to donate $130m to pay the military if billionaires in the US paid the same tax rate that they did in the 80's.

In fact, if they did, ALL the programs Trump cut, including the ACA, would be easily funded.
