I agree that video games are often underpriced compared to the enjoyment you get out of them, but the industry’s problems seem more related to abysmal management than consumers being unwilling to pay for good games.
AAA video games should cost $100 on launch. this would still be extremely cheap for the amount of time and enjoyment you get out of them! But an audience of whiny babies has kept them literally at the same price for *two decades* despite both general inflation *and* sector-specific costs rising

A very incomplete list of things we wouldn't have done if we waited for the normies to care:

- abolish slavery
- child labor laws
- votes for women
- social security
- fdic
- welfare
- medicare
- medicaid
- desegregation
- women's sports
"normies do not care about this thing and so it is no use raising a stink" is imho just an excuse for not doing politics, which is the job of making normies care about something

Interesting that, say, Jenna Marbles is basically an online household name, like we've all heard of her, but if you ask the average person at the grocery store which is their favorite Jenna Marbles video they will stare & say "who?" anyway she has like 5x the YouTube followers as Charlie Kirk did

It turns out that protecting hate speech did not create the conditions to protect other kinds of speech; instead, it protected hate and allowed hate movements to take over all the institutions of that might have defended the rest of us.

The lack of mainstream coverage of regular huge protests reminds me of a talk from a Twitter employees who explained that they had to drop BLM off the Trending Tags section because otherwise it would have been there permanently. The modern media environment has no appetite for sustained movements.

I spent the 2010's arguing with my white colleagues that we were facing a crisis in newsroom diversity. The smart, dedicated, talented cis white journalists I thought of as my friends didn't want to hear it. Most of them ignored me. At least one of them told me to go to hell.
The only thing I can say about this paragraph is read it. Sit with it. Read it again. @michaelharriot.bsky.social

Firing and demoralizing feminized jobs as enemies of the state while brazenly bribing men with violent jobs that almost instantly puts them into the middle of middle class is very basic gendered warfare. Fulfilling the manosphere’s promise.
It is insane to me that the government can find money to pay ICE agents increasingly larger sums of money, yet teachers have to buy their own pencils.

Newsom has proved that he will set aside every liberal ideal you think he holds for the sake of power. You simply can’t trust him. I don’t object to him forcefully opposing Trump where he can, but the reason people qualify their support is that he’s a snake.
Why does everyone praising Newsom feel the need to add that that they don't especially like him? There's a freaking rapist in the WH and fascism is taking root. We need someone with cajones, smarts, and the willingness to harness power. It's not a popularity contest, people.

This is not a massive decision or any kind of change. Costco has never carried mifepristone in its pharmacies. An anti-abortion group is taking credit for something that didn't happen, possibly to generate disingenuous left-wing ire against one of the few corporations that hasn't gone MAGA.

the thing everyone is going to have to accept is that the post-trump period, whenever it comes, will not and cannot be a project of national unity, it must be a project of partisan project of renewal, in the same way that reconstruction and the new deal were partisan projects of renewal.

Men with big accounts get Vewwy Angery at me for noting that MAGA is a war of men against women, for which Trump has built a coalition of men across race, class & religion.

Anyhoo a Cabinet official supports the idea of disenfranchising the majority of Americans (women).

yes he was, and he immediately followed it up by committing a lot of crimes and otherwise attempting to destroy our entire system of government and replace it with autocracy

My partner's response when I shared this thread: "Politicians are going to end up with a tarnished legacy no matter what, do they want it to be from the fascists in power or because they actually stood up and did something."
oh they benefit from senate malapportionment? admit new states. they gerrymander? either ban gerrymandering or do it yourself even worse. they benefit from the electoral college? time for a popular vote. they funded by a handful of billionaires? confiscate their wealth
