I guess I am on this site now.

Ottawa, Canada.
Somewhere out there is an alternate universe in which Gore beat Bush and MySpace beat Facebook and Nuzzi didn't release a book of Vogon poetry-level prose.

It's lovely and those blissfully ignorant people have no idea what fate they dodged.

Folks will not provide ALT TEXT for images, yet, will write very detailed and descriptive prompts to get the right image for Gen #AI. Make it make sense. There's a talk and presentation tucked away in there. #a11y

Thanks @katebeaton.bsky.social for the laughs this morning. "Maybe you shouldn't cut your own hair on opioids" made me snort in my coffee.

Hope you are feeling better.

Someday anthropologists may study this in the same way that we question the logic of pulling down trees to build bigger and bigger maoi statues at Easter island.

Half my neighbors want cops to arrest 10yo kids for riding ebikes. Local stores and restaurants allow max of two teenagers in the store at once. Kids played Pokemon Go outdoors and people reacted like it was the end times.

We took everywhere away from them. Of course they’re on their phones.
Remember when the malls were saying kids couldn't come there without an adult unless they worked there...? Remember that one city that gave all its kids a curfew...? Remember the kids police killed for playing unsupervised...? Or the parents charged with crimes for leaving their kids in parks...?
"Most of the children in our survey said that they aren’t allowed to be out in public at all without an adult. Fewer than half of the 8- and 9-year-olds have gone down a grocery-store aisle alone; more than a quarter aren’t allowed to play unsupervised even in their own front yard."

Duffy: "If you're liberal, they want you to take public transportation ... the problem is that it's dirty. You have criminals. It's homeless shelters. It's insane asylums. It's a work ground for the criminal element of the city to prey upon the good people."

Choice quote: "Once you stop taking Elon’s words at face value, you can never see or hear him the same again".

Also applies to the entirety of the United States at this point. Canada and Ukraine know this already. The bond market is *only just* waking up to this reality.
10 years ago today I was about to drive from Oregon to the middle of nowhere in California's Central Valley on a whim that would forever transform my life.

What a long, strange trip it's been... and I've never been so convinced it's almost over.

Unless Seattle restauranteurs and hoteliers know someone who can compel ICE to respect the writ of habeas corpus, not sure this is going to cut it.
Seattle, feeling the pinch from lack of Canadian tourism with border crossings down 50%, have started a tourism campaign where local restaurants/hotels take Canadian dollars at par this weekend for the annual Jays-Mariners series

As much as Jack Layton was personally popular and led the NDP to electoral success, in the long run, I think history may look more kindly on @jagmeetsingh.ca

Layton toppled Martin to lead to a decade of rule under Harper, while Singh pushed the Libs to pass dentalcare and prevented a CPC win.

Pretty clear that Donald is equating a vote for the Conservatives as a vote for being subsumed by the United States.

I hope that Canadians are taking him seriously and literally when they vote today.
