As Ukraine marks Holodomor Remembrance Day, mourning millions of victims of Stalin's genocidal famine, it feels as though the Trump administration is happy to give Putin another chance to finish off what Stalin started. Europe should do everything in its power to help Ukraine & defeat Russia.

Mahmood/government should say explain *objective* of increasing time to settlement for 15 years for care workers who arrived 2022-24

Is it

A) to get them to leave? Why?
B) to save money? Then why not just restrict benefits?
C) to "encourage integration"? How? Will do opposite.
15 years for people in medium skilled jobs and care workers too. I believe this goes down to 10 years if they earn over £50,270. Someone in a high skilled job earning over that qualifies in 5 years.

Given that the emails in question were about him exploiting his position against a junior-scholar mentee, he should not be allowed within a million miles of a classroom and should not be allowed to serve on any dissertation committees, etc etc etc.
Larry Summers tells @theharvardcrimson.bsky.social
he’s stepping back from all public commitments in light of his messages with Epstein, saying he is “deeply ashamed” and hopes “to rebuild trust and repair relationships.”

He will continue teaching.

I'll be joining and speaking at this emergency rally tonight.

The only reason we should be inviting Issac Herzog to this country is to arrest him.

Downing Street. 6pm 👇🏼
"DATE CHANGED

Oppose the visit of Isaac Herzog
⏰ Tuesday 9 September, 6PM
📍 Downing Street, London
The date for this protest has changed. Herzog is flying in early
Join us at Downing Street at 6PM to demand he is arrested as soon as he lands in the UK"

Tom's exactly right - the biggest problem with Vox Pops is there is no transparency about the selection process - so journalists/producers can just keep asking people until they get the answers they want. There are *much* better ways to gather qualitative insights than this now.
Vox pops are the lowest form of journalism because they allow news organisations to editorialise through selective interviews without even the spurious science of polling data. This is leading the website of the BBC which must think it’s the most important news happening today.

It isn’t about mistakes. Governments always make mistakes. It’s the entire strategy of trying to compete with Farage on his own agenda that’s misconceived. The current approach could be implemented flawlessly and it would still be a disaster. Give me a deputy leadership candidate willing to say so.

Something the new housing secretary may wish to bring to the top of his inbox today: the simmering scandal of the Building Safety Regulator – whose backlog has not only brought a near halt to new housing in London, but is also blocking cladding removal. Amazingly underreported story, so far…

(I wondered why Menzie Chinn was writing about some random dissertation.)

We tell of the refugee children inside the hotel terrified by chants of “send them out!”
