Hard to beat a New York skyline

The endless pre-budget talk and ‘what the govt can do’ Would be nice to hear a bit more about what the private sector can do.

I mean, who’d want to be BBC DG?

Jimmy Hill!

O, agree! It was great viewing!

I’ve gone straight to the top - the British Museum!

Traitors finale! Yes, I know, bit late. But had any of them read Machiavelli, understood the prisoners dilemma, grasped ideas of probability developed by Cardano, Pascal, Fermat et al or managed the whips office of a major political party? I think not!

I’ve seen confidence intervals, but….!

Odd honeycombish v hard mstone…

I’ve had this for years, dug up in m’garden in midlands. Anyone know what it might be? (Yes, yes, it’s a small head). 1/2

Who runs the fish and chip shop in Ambridge and why haven’t we heard from any of them for 70 years?

Yes, harsh but not unfair! I remember liking John Cole (partly I suspect for the NI accent!). Simpson, not so much. Hard to disentangle one’s own political views from such assessments of course

Alex, what’s your rating on previous BBC political correspondents? Any any good?

Watched Woody Allen’s A Rainy Day Day in New York. Liked Timothy Chalomet’s piss take impression of Allen. Best line was:
Film star: ‘I can take you to the south of France’
Young female: ‘the WHERE of WHAT?!’

I’ve only got one rocket left ffs!

Is it me (north London based) or are there fewer fireworks this year? Just about to launch a few rockets left over from last year… Apols neighbours!

Sure I’ve read - @chrisgiles.ft.com @timharford.ft.com ? - that total welfare spend pretty flat and that health bit largely or in part due to changes in the way benefits structured?

I want no/minimal curation/filters thank you @bsky.app .
This is a very bad idea @bsky.app it’s going to turn a more positive platform into a negative one. That’s the reason many are on this platform as a refuge.

It’s completely imaginable that a UK state could exist and function perfectly well without a monarchy or a president. I think we’d be better for it in many ways. Am I missing something?

In a (parliamentary) democracy the prime minister is essentially the head of state. Why do we persist with a bloodline monarchy? (Or even think a ‘head of state’/president/monarchy (aka the gangsta family that over centuries has by hook and by crook risen to the top) is necessary?)
