love that the Turning Point website is promoting AmericaFest like “we will gather to honor Charlie’s legacy, his faith, his courage, his conviction a life gone too soon 😢” and then the video promos for the afterparties are like

But we also need to address one of the root causes of violent crime, and that's poverty. There's a reason for profit prison companies so heavily support strict eviction laws. Housing insecurity leads to crime.

The first thing we need to do is decriminalize drugs and sex work. Just doing that will markedly decrease violent crime. We know this. And, replacing prison terms with voluntary treatment for addiction vastly reduces recidivism, reduces violent crime rates, and improves outcomes.

The municipal police have another problem too. A study from a few years ago found that police were the sixth leading cause of death for Black men in the United States. That means Black men have a greater risk of being murdered by police than being killed in an actual crime.

The problem with asking abolitionists how to prevent violent and sexual crimes is that it presupposes that the current system actually addresses sexual or violent crimes when it categorically does not. The United States has the lowest clearance rates for violent crimes in the developed world.

The maximum amount of moisture the air can hold is determined by the dew point. Relative humidity is the percent of that maximum, that the air actually holds.

When the dew point is very low, the air can hold very little moisture, so even at high relative humidity will be very dry.

At what point did being completely wrong start counting as an “opinion”? Claiming vaccines cause autism isn’t an opinion. It’s utter bullshit. And then they say, “Well, that’s my opinion, you have to respect it.” No. I don’t have to respect stupidity. Fuck off.

No one should be fired without just cause. Racially abusing or sexually harassing a customer (or coworker) is quite often a just cause for termination, because we live in a society and people’s actions affect other people. It’s not as simple as “siding with a corporation against a poor racist”
December 12, 2025 at 4:16 PM
This is such an insane take like this is the most reasonable firing. You cant proudly announce youre racist at work and have no consequences
better worker protections doesn't include impunity for yelling slurs at customers/clients/patients/etc & wtf does this have to do with being on the left?

perhaps do some unionizing for protections & betterment of material conditions for all workers instead of whatever this is?
“Those of us on the left should be fighting to improve protections for workers of all races, and thereby for the betterment of people’s material conditions regardless of their views,” Arash Azizi argues:

Double ACA premiums. Kick 15 million off health care. Undermine lifesaving vaccines and spark disease outbreaks.

The Trump administration is endangering the health of the American people.
The measles outbreak in South Carolina is “accelerating” with no end in sight following Thanksgiving and other large gatherings, state health officials say.
