Taxes on land value, pollution & IP should replace taxes on work. Split DC into 127 states to achieve a supermajority to make the Constitution fair. #LVT #UBI

"Americanism" and "Western Civilization" make no sense as a pairing because the nations that are being referenced as the exemplars of WC were feudal monarchies that were colonial powers, which is by definition what America wasn't because it was itself a colonial possession of a feudal monarchy.
Looks like it’s time to re-up this thread on the fascist genealogy of the seemingly pablum term “Americanism.”

It's hard to overstate how much the Republican Party has become the party of Southern politics and identity. Their vision for America is a continent sized Arkansas.
JD Vance's ideal America is a place with half the GDP where everyone with potential and options gets the fuck out, a shithole that people from countries with actual dynamism visit to watch chintzy 'traditional' dances before going home.

Part of why this stuff keeps getting underreported is that our media class can’t get it through their thick heads that this is not a weightless debate over political ideology, but a declaration of war on over 100 million Americans, which DHS is announcing an intent to eliminate

American conservatism has been 250 years of trying to define who is not worthy of participation in the civil life of America using identitarian criteria of skin color, religion, and gender.
Look forward to Bari Weiss asking "has identity politics gone too far?" while studiously ignoring the most virulent identity politics driving American government
A reminder for those who are not aware: "remigration" is the process of deporting all non-white people from a country. It includes citizens and is, by definition, ethnic cleansing.

And to be clear: this is not fake. I just screenshot it myself.

I just replaced my phone a couple of months ago that was 6 years old which had bricked out of the blue. No structural damage to the screen or any other issues, so no reason to replace. My work laptop that I replaced 6 months ago OTOH was slow as all heck and was productivity-enhancing to replace.
If a phone still works fine, it’s not “device hoarding” to keep using it. It’s common sense.

You can’t tax capital, because it’s powerful, you can’t tax land, because it’s political suicide, so you have to tax labor, and this just means you’re separating people whose money is made by labor from those whose money is made by money or land ownership.
I love to have an economy based entirely on appreciating financial instruments and real estate (but I repeat myself) but which refuses to tax that because its owners are politically powerful! Everything will be paid for by taxing income instead!
The political economic situation does kinda suck if you are a renter not in one of about three industries that pay well. And we're cutting property taxes and taxes on tips/overtime so if you're salaried you're responsible for even more of the tax base

Easy, it's called getting rid of sales taxes, which grandma is paying with her social security, and taxes on incomes and physical structures, which will lower prices when grandma spends her social security check and lower home prices for easier downsizing options.
The big question for Democrats is how you raise property or land taxes without getting accused of pricing grandma out of her home by the entire political spectrum.

A full renovation can be achieved with the same simple majorities by using the ability to create states and add 127 states of DC. Why fix a problem with normal legislation when you can fix the problem at the source with an existing constitutional procedure?

My kids loved Ponyo when they were young. I am still fond of (playfully) yelling at the kids from time to time in my best Liam Neeson voice to "RESPECT YOUR FATHER!"

The full time job of the modal person with the title of "city planner" in the US is to be a steward of segregation.

Housing at the regional & local levels is a multi-factoral prisoner's dilemma and if you understand that then you understand why bullshit about community vetting and lived experience are NIMBY cudgels not for but against improving lives.
November 27, 2025 at 11:01 PM
There's nothing really in practice anything different from the legal regimes of sundown towns and the legal regimes devised by NIMBYs in order to control the makeup of "their" communities.
I’m far more direct. It’s not up to “communities” to determine what anyone can do with their property.
While @resnikoff.bsky.social's article has some valid criticism, part of the challenge underscored here is that the YIMBY movement needs to continue to engage with justice orgs and listen to the lived experiences in dialogue. Swooping in and telling communities what to think is the wrong approach.
November 28, 2025 at 10:11 PM
Left-NIMBYs like to ascribe the term "trickle-down economics" to YIMBY housing policies, but this is actually the true definition of trickle-down economics.
And as the 2024 election showed, the median voter doesn't understand economics or how prices work.

I'm 100% sure this campaign claim from 1978 would still work today:

This has never stopped the right from calling anyone left of Susan Collins a socialist or communist, despite none of those people either joining Red Guard military units or engaging in stochastic acts of violence in order to dispossess the bourgeoisie of their private property.
I guess it’s a good thing we were so concerned about the right to speak our opinions being outlawed by a ruling class that we guaranteed it by making it the very first amendment in our Bill of Rights when we formed the country.
