Said this yesterday in a reply, but: The thing is he isn't some unprecedented master interviewer. He just does his research and calls them on bullshit. And I think it speaks to the state of journalism that his subjects are universally unprepared for that
Chotiner is a legitimately good journalist but it’s wild that people think he’s some sort of evil wizard because he says “what do you mean by that”

In these days of Social Media Is King, optics matter more than ever before.
Think how many people this would help radicalise to the pro-democracy side.

If you think waving the flag at a protest is weird for our side, picture how it'll look when pro-Democracy protesters, waving the American flag, get kettled by riot cops. Imagine the effect those pictures will have on social media. On newspapers. Try to imagine a more powerful visual.
You don’t have to fly or use the US flag if you don’t personally want to, but you also need to stop this bizarre and counterproductive habit of acting like everyone who does is a cop or a fascist.
