this is a great first step! The next steps are the hardest ones, where you have to rebuild trust by showing through your words and actions that you mean it, even when it doesn’t immediately pay dividends. That doesn’t take away from the first step being an important one. I hope she pulls her book.

I remember the phrase "they can't be allowed to melt back into society" re: the de-Baathification of Iraq after the war there. Like everything about that experience, the attempt was cynical, stupid, and botched. But there really should be a plan about what we do with guys like these in the future.
