I truly don't know how to explain the holiday weekend I just had. I could say we had friends staying with us, but I could also say that we had the other half of our platonic polycule here. Labels are imprecise but that's the closest I know. Whatever, we know what we are.

Being there to provide deep emotional support of friends through hard things shouldn't be gendered... but it's always felt like it is, to me. To my detriment really but leave that aside.

Spoke on this yesterday but it really is something your average person does not care about at WORST. It's a small minority that actively hates us and then you have to consider it is only a sliver of that who consider it a pressing issue. Most people probably want the bigots to STFU already.
I don't know if it's just me, but I've gotten the sense recently that transphobia a political tool is already played out. Not only is it not a winner, but it really feels like the right overplayed their hand with anti-trans hate and people generally seem sick of it, sick of bulling running on hate.
As many have pointed out, Mamdani didn't stand apart from our trans brothers and sisters. He didn't play the "Gee, gosh, it sure is complicated," milquetoast moderate card. And he crushed.

The description of the US as a "cruel and carceral nation" is spot on. If we are to ever move forward, we need to stop saying "this is not who we are." It's exactly who we are and have always been. The sooner we accept that, the sooner we can make actual meaningful change to this fucked up system.

Folks demanding political / ideological purity fail to see that this is no longer a movement belonging to the left / liberals. This is an opposition against fascism. By definition it must be big tent. Failure to grasp this: see divided oppositions in Eastern Europe as your failed examples.
