Aside from the ghastly, ghastly design, surely the major flaw of Royal Mail’s new solar-powered postboxes is the capacity? How many parcels can you cram into one of these things before it's full and out of service for the rest of the day?

If you enjoyed the Accidental Tour-ist, then perhaps you might put your ballot paper in the digital box? I'd be enormously grateful. I mean, there's bigger things in the word than this. But the really teeny tiny things also matter (to me).

I'm currently making the four god-heads from the Ancient Egyptian 'canopic jars' (the jars that contained the removed organs) Here's two of them, the falcon-headed Qebehsenuef, and the baboon-headed Hapi.

As always, paying a fine - even a huge one - does not address the problem. They should be made to scrap any LLM trained on the stolen data and start over using only material they have legally acquired. Otherwise it's like fining someone for burgling your house, but they get to keep what they took.
OpenAI pirated large numbers of books and used them to train models.

OpenAI then deleted the dataset with the pirated books, and employees sent each other messages about doing so.

A lawsuit could now force the company to pay $150,000 per book, adding up to billions in damages.

How is this a gotcha?
As a kid any relative older than you was aunt or uncle. Any adult we knew was an auntie or uncle. Even my next door neighbour was Auntie Pauline. My mum’s friends were auntie.
My mum is actually my aunt.

I used to love how my daughter's little friend Neha, down the street, would call me "Uncle Jeff" when the girls were little.

Taking a non-fiction detour with @nedboulting.bsky.social’s fascinating book, 1923: The Mystery Of Lot 212 And A Tour De France Obsession. Full of Ned’s enthusiasm.
Sadly, it just reminds me that we’ll be denied the fantastic TdF coverage from him, David Millar, and Gary Imlach next summer.
