If children were more politically active they would be quite pissed to be told that their screen time is “the most urgent public health issue” while the largest measles outbreak since the vaccine sweeps their schools because of conspiracies that the adults in their life believed from social media.

To anyone that needs clarification, "your best" is what you can accomplish without damage to your physical, mental and emotional health, not what you can accomplish by destroying them

I've said it before but, in the absence of proper regulation and the licensing of metal detecting, then we must rely on the good old fashioned fairy curses attached to each and every hoard. Let the folk beyond the veil sort it out. 🏺🪙🧚🏼‍♂️☠️

Franzi Schimmer captured this Grizzly bear in Brooks Falls, Alaska just floating along, tippy-tapping down the river, browsing the salmon.

Prior to hibernation, up to 40% of a bear's body mass is fat, which is less dense than water (~0.9 g/cm^2), so the murder-monster is also a floaty-boaty.

It is kind of wild that people are legally allowed a hobby that destroys a one of a kind shared cultural and historical record. Like if my hobby was collecting rare plants, I'm not allowed to go down the local SSSI and dig some up to bring home. Because they belong to everyone and they're protected.

trying to live every day in our society right night feels like rewatching the time knife episode of The Good Place. you try to buy almost literally anything and you do your research, probably too much research, and yet somehow you still end up doing net harm to the world and the people in it

This seems like not a great partnership, given how poorly Spotify compensates artists (which presumably includes audiobook authors). I can see that Bookshop would see an increase in sales from this partnership, but is it worth it, ethically? You still have to buy/access the audiobook from Spotify.

To add to this, if you've immigrated to the UK and aren't certain you had the two recommended doses in your youth, the NHS will give you a booster too!

I had this done last year before travelling, as the advice from my administration at home was that my birth year might have only had one dose.
Reminder that if you were born between 1970 and 1990, you can get MMR boosters free on the NHS. Just call your GP surgery and ask, they'll get you a nurse's appointment pretty quick www.nhs.uk/vaccinations...
🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Health officials are racing to contain a growing measles outbreak in London, which has struck down dozens of young children and affected 7 schools and a nursery.

UKHSA has warned an outbreak across London could see 40,000 - 160,000 cases:

If the finder were an archaeologist this would be an unthinkable story, our training teaches us that artefacts represent a shared past. His training is in documents, he sees objects as something to be auctioned, a source of 'reward'
Is this an anomaly? Historian friends, how do you feel about this?

I'm used to increasingly dire standards of reporting in formerly reputable local media outlets but this one, from @thenorthernecho.bsky.social (which covers a large chunk of NE England), is possibly the worst attempt at a "news story" I've ever encountered

It's great finding Amazon alternatives, esp as he is particularly loathsome. But we may need to work harder. Argos largest shareholder is the Sovereign Wealth fund of Qatar. Boots is owned by US Private Equity firm Sycamore Partners & Waterstones is majority owned by US 'activist investors' Elliot
I cannot stress enough how enjoyable it is to deprive that withered old cunt of your money. Waterstones, Argos, Boots - it is so easy to get whatever you need, and it feels kinda fun, like taking a holiday in 90s Britain
Just ordered a book from my local Waterstones. Click and collect so I’ll get it on way home tonight. As cheap as Amazon. Also bought an instant camera earlier this week from Argos, cheaper than on Amazon. It’s proving very easy not to use the evil billionaire’s website. More of you should try it.

once as a teenager we drove up to Boise for a pretty large sectional tennis tournament, basically drew everyone in the mountain time zone. There was this local kid who played all his matches in one of these wolf moon shirts. Naturally he cooked everyone. Won a sectional in a wolf shirt
The only real “moon economy” that can save us is a revamping of the spirit wolf moon shirt industry
