🌟 Red Panda Spotlight 🌟

Tomorrow is International Red Panda Day! So, let's meet a few of our resident red pandas:

10-year-old male Pumori is known for his eagerness to participate in training with zookeepers.

3-year-old female Stevie is playful and curious. She arrived at Zoo Boise in 2023.

I genuinely cannot believe that Ezra Klein said we should run pro-life candidates in Kansas, Ohio, and Missouri; three states that recently held abortion referendums where the pro-choice side won!

he is explicitly stating that antisemites have more claim to america than jews and he is making this case unprompted.
JD Vance imagines someone who

- has ancestors that fought in the Civil War
- has been labeled by the ADL as an extremist

“I think the people whose ancestors fought in the Civil War have a hell of a lot more claim over America than the people who say they don’t belong."

A lot going on there.

There’s a lot of mutuals who have either unfollowed me or blocked me on Twitter but are still mutuals here. I wonder if:

— accidentally unfollowing is a common bug on Twitter
— I’ve been canceled and people don’t know we’re the same Lillian
— blue sky is a place for second chances

It rules that “knowingly publish a lie, then quietly retract it once it’s done the damage” is a cheat code that lets you do whatever you want without ever being held accountable for any of it. Such journalism. Very ethics. Wow!
POLITICO competitor NOTUS posted a story this morning suggesting Rep. Sarah McBride is giving Democrats cover to retreat on trans rights.

The piece sparked backlash at McBride.

But NOTUS has since rewritten it multiple times, changing the takeaway without issuing a correction.

IMO what we should be focusing on is consolidating large media spaces (cumulative audiences 30-50 million at least) that are loudly adversarial. This will undercut the main ways authoritarian regimes stop the opposition from mobilizing www.liberalcurrents.com/we-must-defe...

It's a little bit of both

But it's a straight fact that more civilians have died from plane crashes during Trump's administration than have for decades

9/11 beats it (so far), but 2001 is the closest year that beats 2025
i really do not have a good sense of whether 1) this is just the East Palestine effect where every future train problem gets media attention but the number of actual train problems is pretty much the same or 2) we have a big spike in actual plane problems
A Delta flight carrying ~80 passengers from Minnesota appears to have crash landed at Toronto Pearson Airport. No casualties reported as of this time. Numerous photos and videos have been released showing passengers safely exiting the plane, which flipped upside down. At least 8 people injured.

The Big Lie in zoning is that land use regulation today concerns health, safety, & welfare

We could rewrite zoning & building codes for performance! Energy, noise damping, air quality, even beauty

But housing regulation in fact focuses on making buildings small, not making buildings good
