We had years and years of right wingers saying the left hated Canada because they talked about racism and the environment but when push comes to shove they’re on the knees licking the mud of the boots of whichever foreign fascist tries to shake down the country first

I'm just imagining the charge sheet if the average infanteer slipped and yeeted a loaded mag into a crowd of civilians.

You'd be bumming beer money off your buddies for months and probably get a new call sign at minimum.
A single federal agent with a long gun just walked through the crowd, slipped on the ice on his way under the police tape.

Dropped his loaded clip.

I'm like 80% sure this is what the Trump administration actually believes.
It's a little known fact, but every military action automatically becomes 600% more effective for every violation of customary IHL you manage to squeeze in.

Gonna go shoot a guy? Take no chances! Guarantee the bullets kill him by yelling "we surrender - just kidding!" before pulling the trigger.

I think some of the reluctance of mainstream politicians to say "abolish ICE" comes down to a hangover from "abolish the police."

But these are different! "The police" is a collective noun for a lot of different organizations all over the place. ICE is just one organization.

Look, guys, I'm sure Trump has seen this graphic before, and equally sure Iran has a whole bunch of uninhabited mountains where nobody would much mind an extra crater or two

Every ICE agent I’ve seen has been a doughy insecure mess who needs to cosplay soldier to feel strong. If that’s what you think is “physically confident” or “masculine,” woo boy do we have some issues.
That actually kind of sounds like your fantasy, Naomi.

There's got to be a word for a fallacy where someone assumes a rule or a norm that sounds humanitarian must be entirely divorced from pragmatic logic.

The Trump administration is obviously a common offender, but it's not the only one.

I told them to reject the notion cops don’t have time to think, that they simply must act. I say ‘if I tell you I’m gonna punch you in 90 seconds, you could go make a sandwich & still have time to figure out what to do.’ Well, you’ve got 90 seconds as you’re driving to the call..so use it wisely

Frankly, even if we lived in a parallel universe where ICE was a universally well-meaning organization, you still wouldn't want them on the streets because the modal agent is too dumb to be trusted with a pen knife.
Lack of training is clearly a problem, though. The ICE goon who killed Renee Good earlier today also came within a foot of hitting his own coworker, who himself was being thrown around like a rag doll because he grabbed a moving car while standing on... uh... ice.

They're both evil and bad at this.

Just yesterday DHS was taunting us on social media. Now they've come to our city and killed a legal observer. How much more can we take? We are being invaded and shot by our own government for the purposes of generating content for a mob of Nazis on the internet.

One of the few redeeming qualities of Bertran de Born - who was perhaps history's most sincere and unapologetic warmonger - is that he absolutely hated Richard I and much of his warmongering was downstream of his desire to fuck up "Lord Yes-and-No"
A lot of people criticising this, but I am choosing to believe that this is finally the anti-Richard I film that England deserves.

Did they trash Caracas just to give everyone in the Venezuelan line of succession an acting promotion?
Marco Rubio said he’s reserving judgment on Venezuela VP Delcy Rodríguez’s denial, saying the U.S. will judge the interim authorities by their actions in the coming days and weeks and urging them to seize a “historic opportunity” to serve the country.-NYT

Very annoying that we live in a world where a dumber version of Putin has a way more effective military at his disposal
russian war bloggers on telegram are very mad right now, but I suspect it's mostly because russia tried to do the exact same thing in the opening phase of the invasion (see Battle of Hostomel Airport) and failed miserably

This gets absurdly specific, too. Like, when buying training swords for HEMA, I always measure blade length for one-handed swords in inches and two-handed swords in centimeters.

I *think* this is because it used to be easier to source two-handed swords from Europe and one-handed swords from the US.
Could this be a sign that Canada has somehow discovered the secret, perfect synthesis between Metric and Imperial?

Or is it simply because Canada uses Metric but buys lots of household goods from the US?

We may never know.
