An utter tragedy. Science solved this problem, but a bunch of charlatans fucked everything up and brought it back

heartening to see so many people not putting up with it. hope they refound themselves as independent groups away from the bigots in charge
At least 12 WI groups are closing or considering closure after the organisation barred transgender women from membership.

Members say more groups are likely to close, and that the federation’s decision has opened up a toxic, traditionalist culture that will deter younger women from joining.

US Troops killed all the guards at Dachau for this kind of shit.
On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

So, what happened is that old people love apprenticeships, so we created a payroll tax of 0.5% to fund them, but most companies don't really train through apprenticeships anymore so a lot of professional qualifications restructured as apprenticeships to take advantage of that funding.
Exclusive: Leadership and management apprenticeships are on the chopping block under plans to find savings and tilt the apprenticeship system towards young people, skills minister Jacqui Smith has confirmed https://feweek.co.uk/management-apprenticeships-on-the-chopping-block-minister-confirms/

Millions will die sooner and more painfully than they needed too due to the anti scientific turn of the US government
In terms of what cures are being lost:

- Epstein-Barr virus is perhaps the major trigger for multiple sclerosis
- herpes simplex virus causes cold sores, genital herpes, infections in babies, deadly meningitis
- shingles virus causes an intensely painful disease

On the one hand I think there are several structural factors that have brought Orbán to a reckoning; on the other, I choose to believe the prospect of a re-democratisation of Hungary is down to Troy Parrott.

The transphobic press have no incentive to give Labour credit for their transphobia and every incentive to push them to go further. Labour gain nothing by caving to them, and yet cave to them they will, out of a potent combination of hatred for trans people and political ineptitude.
You all saw the guidance that went out yesterday for trans kids in schools. Absolutely horrific stuff.

This is how the right wing papers are covering that news. Times, Mail and Telegraph all have it on their front page, the first two as their main story of the day.

Domination is the only principle guiding the Trump movement, so the paradigmatic case of domination—gender violence—will inevitably arise as Trumpism’s core expression.
A MAGA freak in Texas murdered his own daughter in cold blood after they had an argument about Trump.

A grand jury in the Dallas area then *declined to indict him*, and he has not yet faced charges.

Seems like many Texans believe a man has the right to kill his own child for disobedience.

it's self interested, but genuinely I think rowing back on the trans rights crackdown would be helpful for govt. it's low salience among most voters, but lots of centre left people know trans people personally and are disgusted by it. would also save money.
If Starmer changes tack or is replaced by someone to his “left”, the main shift will be tonal because the government has just been quite left wing. It put up taxes, spent more on public services and gave unions a load more powers
A good example of how strangely unpolitical this government is at times.
The Economist is fretting that trade union laws have been tilted (sharply!) back towards strengthening unions.
But is the government making an argument around this to progressive voters? No.

is there a definitive history of the death of libertarian politics? used to be a kind of guy you would meet. post 2016 ceased to exist. some fully embraced far right authoritarianism, some became mainstream liberals within the left tent.
I feel like I'm losing my goddamnned mind.

partly that many journalists and politicians don't care about sexual harassment. but also chris pincher was just a disembodied cipher for scandal. nobody knew who he was before or since, even his name just a lame pun on his crimes.
The way Chris pincher has been basically been erased from boris downfall is really instructive in Westminster culture and how these people get away with it
I see we're back to "Johnson resigned because of a party" and not because he employed a known sex pest, lied about what he knew, and more than half his cabinet resigned as a result.

Crank convergence is such a waste of the infinite potential of the human spirit; Naomi Wolf shouldn't be running third-tier Stop the Steal derivatives, she should be chronicling how the Catholic Church suppressed the memory of the Primordial Feminine Goddess and trying to translate Linear A.
Bill Ackman's fund, Pershing Square, manages 18 billion dollars for wealthy clients, billions of it for the Harvard Endowment

all sorts of confounders in this I imagine, but drinking becoming an almost inverted social marker feels both true and is also immensely funny given the entire history of modern alcohol abuse prevention
Also interesting:

"39% of all adults living in more deprived areas said that they were non-drinkers, which compared with 16% in the least deprived neighbourhoods."

learning lessons from HS2. The government will cancel your project half way through, so add extra stupid bits on it. When they cancel the bangor-dublin leg we pretend to be angry but we still get HS3.
Absolutely tremendous work here, no notes.

when i started working as a journalist in 2014, there were trans reporters in multiple national newsrooms. almost all have left. the high output of anti-trans articles & the near absence of articles by trans journalists are two sides of the same coin: institutional transphobia in the UK media.
And now @ludovicparsons.bsky.social highlights the huge increase in anti-trans articles over the last 10 years, as the number of trans journalists falls. The challenge to get positive ripples of trans lives covered, in a sea of gender critical misinformation
