Things went swimmingly all year at Zoo Boise! We opened two new exhibits, renovated the rainforest building, began construction on the Education Center, and welcomed several new animals!

Here's to continuing to keep your world wild in 2026 (and beyond).

You probably smell maned wolves before you see 'em. Their strong scent is how they mark territory. Since maned wolves are rather quiet, they often communicate only through this powerful aroma!

The prehensile-tailed skink 'smells' with its tongue. 😛

We got up-close with skink Clarence as he flicked his tongue to gather scents. Then he touched his tongue on the roof of his mouth to take in the smells.

Is Fletcher listening intently or just waking up!?

Bat-eared foxes, like Fletcher at Zoo Boise, can hear a single insect crawling or burrowing up to a foot underground thanks to their five-inch-long ears!

Monkey or ape??
One easy tip to spot the difference between primates is to look for a tail. Most monkeys have tails, but apes - including gibbons - do not have visible tails.

Hey Paji! 👋

Did you know: A sloth bear can fully close its nostrils when sniffing around ant hills and termite mounds. This helps make sure the bear doesn't suck up dirt or get insects crawling up its nose!

Orange teeth?! Yes, porcupines like Ozzy have orange or reddish smiles because their teeth are coated by iron-rich enamel, not white enamel like humans. A porcupine’s front teeth also continuously grow, only naturally worn down by gnawing.
