(My quote from a more involved private convo but generally applicable & evergreen)

I don't think any human should want for food, shelter, medical care. No exceptions. I think conservatives disagree with that, and I find it immoral on a personal level and disastrous in human cost on the policy level
This is without exaggeration one of the most soulless sentences I have ever seen

I say it over and over again: when you have that much money, you want to live where you want to live and you are simply not going to relocate because of marginal tax rates

Alan Dershowitz will never leave Martha’s Vineyard and they won’t even sell him a pierogi
NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Tax the rich. Greg Ryan in @bloomberg.com:

the thing that strikes me about this — again, besides it being false — is the venom and disrespect for the people who come here to work and build better lives. they aren’t “servants.”
JD Vance: "Democrats' idea was the way you get more prosperity is that you import more and more low wage servants."

I love that some people (obviously the person I'm quoting would be among them, but I'm also just talking about broader Bluesky users) see the site as some sort of tech philosophy experiment (that I've just never bothered to read up on)… then most everyone else oblivious, just posting hog & bad jokes
The core of the Atmosphere is using the PDS to store user's records, just like desktop apps use the filesystem.

Desktop apps interoperate using files. Atmosphere apps interoperate using repo records.

That's the ethos that I highly doubt will ever change.

I don't know about undergrad admissions, but I can tell you there were several great job candidates and prospective grad students who chose not to go to UT Austin in no small part because of the regressive Texas laws
Blue state guidance counselors should be careful to explain to college hopefuls how regressive the laws are in some of these party schools. A young girl could be walking into a nightmare.
November 14, 2025 at 12:53 AM
This is the case at all Texas state universities btw not just A&M

At UT Austin I can say they have been actively and intentionally moving toward this since at least 2021
If you have to get permission to teach in your area of expertise from people who are definitionally not qualified to adjudicate your expertise then you are no longer working at a university.

You’re working at a state propaganda factory.

(yes this is a day with many days i literally do not give one shit because that's the reality we're living)
Imagine being one of the dipshits that has spent the last year downplaying each step in the escalation ladder of fascism. 10 months in and we are at the brink of an expansionist war for nothing but asserting the fact we can rapacious annihilate brown people in our part of the hemisphere.

not to be alarmist but in any scenario where this isn’t just more “dudebro waving his dick around to look cool” posturing basically implies that the scale of mass murder by the US armed forces in LatAm is about to accelerate through the roof

this was made obvious when miller and rubio basically came to agree on this vs Ric Grenell
this is what they’re doing because the had the threadbare awareness to not topple the Mexican government. This is literally their idea of moderation.

Rubio and Miller need to answer for these crimes. It may not happen soon. But they will need to answer.

There's a tendency among a certain type of poster to assume everything they hate about politics and the state can be blamed on avarice, and I'm here to tell you it's actually worse than that.
I continue to disagree with this. The goal of mass detention is mass deportations. A private prison company leasing 100 beds to ICE gets paid the same if the beds are filled by 100 people for a year each or 1,000 people for a few days each. They don't earn more with long-term detention.
It's not about deporting them. It's about detaining them indefinitely and enriching Prisons for Profiteers and the grift the Convict in the Oval Office collects per detainee.
