Also, if we’re being blunt, the purpose of nonviolent resistance isn’t to avoid getting your ass kicked. It’s to dare them to kick your ass as brutally and publicly as possible.

Among (lots of) other things, this is going to flood the federal courts of appeals with cases in which the BIA might previously have cleaned up the IJ's messes.

When something like this happened in 2004, the circuit courts ... did not respond favorably to the government's positions in those cases.
🚨HOLY CRAP. The Trump admin just took a SLEDGEHAMMER to due process, largely eliminating the Board of Immigration Appeals process and MANDATING DISMISSAL of ALL appeals (which cost $1,000 thanks to OBBBA) filed after tomorrow unless a majority of the BIA votes to hear the case.

So fucking what. Walk past them with your middle finger up and VOTE ANYWAY. The mission has NOT changed no matter the obstacles in the way.

Context: this speech is from SIR THOMAS MORE, a history written, as near as scholars can tell, in the early 1600s by 6 or 7 people including Dekker, Heywood, Chettle, Shakespeare, and Munday.

It was never performed, because Jacobean England was a police state and it was banned by the censor.
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

This is the same Katie Britt who sneered that Dems' reasonable demands for restraints on DHS are a "Christmas list" and blamed Dems after the ICE murder of Renee Good
paragraph 48: "In Mr. Trump’s second term, Ms. Britt has voted in line with the president 100 percent of the time."

I think that's around the ratio of ICE+CBP to Americans, right?
This kind of propaganda is how the gestapo tricked folks into thinking they were everywhere, when there were one of them for every 10K Germans.
i think people should consider the extent to which bannon, a known bullshit artist, knows that you will see this and panic. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

Easy to deal with:
So why didn't you act?
If you knew it was wrong and did it anyway, why should voters trust you to act in their best interest?
over the next 3 years, be ready for seeing a lot of coverage of Republican lawmakers, business leaders, university leaders who did absolutely nothing to stall Trump (on the contrary) — about how *actually* they were wringing their hands all along. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/05/u...

I feel we're seeing the opposite of "unite men across the sociopolitical spectrum"?

We see unity among conservatives and among the rich & powerful, but that's meaningfully different to "across the sociopolitical spectrum"; specifically why I bring that up is cause it is useful in reducing misogyny
It is really infuriating to see how misogyny really does unite men across the sociopolitical spectrum. And, in so far as the Epstein files go, they sort women into two categories: fuckable or irrelevant. When they near a hint of accountability they complain about not being able to make women prey.

It's because they are a bunch of rubes

(Source: Come on lol. Plus raised by them)
it's so funny how he basically thinks evangelicals are a bunch of rubes and they just eat it up
Trump: "Mike Johnson is a very religious person. He does not hide it. He'll say to me sometimes at lunch, 'Sir, may we pray.' I'll say, 'Excuse me? We're having lunch.'"

"trying" is not dooming
"will" is dooming

"Trying" is important to blast rn, for the reasons OP cites, but just putting out there what the distinction for me is. We gotta know what they're planning, but I intend to disrupt their plans
Trump and the Republicans are trying to rig the election. That's not being a "doomer," that's acknowledging reality.
Democrats need a coordinated, national response to these coordinated, national attacks. We need an "Elections Czar"
My latest solution in @thenation.com
Democrats Need to Get Serious About Stopping Trump From Rigging the Midterms
Here’s one idea for a coordinated response to Trump’s coordinated attacks.

I'm endorsing Gov. @KathyHochul because she's someone willing to engage in honest dialogue that delivers results.

Along with the movement that powered our campaign, it's how we secured a historic agreement on childcare. And we're just getting started.

Is he even capable of going five minutes without proudly announcing a new constitutional violation? All signs point to "no"
Trump at the National Prayer Breakfast: "We worked hard on getting rid of the Johnson Amendment. You can say anything you can. Now, if you do say something bad about Trump, I will change my mind and I will have your tax exempt status immediately revoked."

I keep saying it, doing things helps

You will likely make a small to moderate positive impact in the world. You will likely make a large positive impact on your mental health. It's win-win
If you're nervous about the midterms, channel that energy into helping secure them.
as i keep saying, the things to do to secure elections are to volunteer to work the polls or to serve as an observer, & to pressure your *state representatives* to take steps to further secure voting locations and ballots. you should also learn about how election administration works in your area.

1. lol at just going on and on about how the whole thing was really about his ego

2. lol at hyping up ego as good at the prayer breakfast
Trump at National Prayer Breakfast: "They rigged the second election. I had to win it. I needed it for my own ego. I would've had a bad ego for the rest of my life. Now I really have a big ego. Beating these lunatics was incredible ... The first time they said I didn't win the popular vote. I did"

As a person of faith, and more specifically a Christian, which is what he meant, let me explain how/why I vote for Dems

My faith teaches me to respect immigrants and treat them the same as native-born Americans; to help the poor, prisoners, the oppressed

Democrats fit that bill better

1/4
Trump at the National Prayer Breakfast: "I don't know how a person of faith can vote for a Democrat. I really don't. *crowd groans* I know we have some here today. I don't know why they're here, because they certainly don't give us their vote ... they cheat."
February 5, 2026 at 2:57 PM
Simple as!
The only response here is a motion to enjoin the whole operation

If the government's position is "I'm sorry your honor but we don't be the capacity to both respect constitutional rights and conduct the operation as it is currently being conducted" the answer is "then you must stop the operation"

They do not have the guys. But I wish people would stop quoting the total number of precincts as if they had to cover them all. They'd need to cover precincts in a few dozen CDs, not all 435. Again, the overall point that they don't have enough guys & would only galvanize opposition is right, but js
I understand folks are scared but I want you to think about the mechanics of this.

There are more polling places (>100k) than ICE and CBP agents combined, so they can only pick a few districts to try to intimidate.

Now what happens when cell phone footage of that goes online in the early morning?
