I thought the earlier news from A&M was bad, but this is incredibly bleak. It’s close to the point of not having a functional university.
Message to all faculty: your expertise is no longer trusted or valued at this so-called “university.”

I’ll keep pushing this line of analysis because I’m increasingly convinced the clearest path out of this mess is for Dems to adopt a relentless anti-corruption, anti-inequality, anti-oligarchy, pro-democracy platform. The Dem leadership hasn’t realized it yet, but they’re now a reform party.

For @msnbc.com I wrote about how Tuesday's election gives Democrats the blueprint for overcoming Republican anti-trans attacks and how thus should settle all the talk about throwing trans people under the bus.

Opinion | Democrats’ election wins showed they don't need to hide their support for trans rights
Republicans repeated Trump's anti-trans strategy from 2024 and lost big. This should be instructive for Democrats.

At this point, anyone—a university, a law firm, a corporation, a Democrat—bending the knee to Trump is doing it because they want to, not because of any political reality.

Given this and Trump's past comments about groceries (he calls the term "old-fashioned"), there is a legitimate, I'm-just-asking-this-as-a-factual-inquiry-purely-based-on-the-president's-own-rhetoric question to be asked:

Does President of the United States know what getting groceries, like…is?
Trump: "It's time for Republicans to do what they have to do and that's terminate the filibuster ... we should start tonight with 'the country's open, congratulations,' then we should pass voted ID, we should pass no mail in voting ... you go to a grocery store, you have to give ID."

Many nonprominent people don't understand why establishment Dems are so obsessed with responding to what they think public opinion is instead of trying to shape it.
Some prominent people on this website have talked themselves into a model of how democracy works — where issues don’t matter to voters and voter preferences are irrelevant to election outcomes — that’s so bleak and nihilistic that I sincerely don’t know why they’d find it worth trying to preserve.

No they aren't. There's always pre-shows for the Super Bowl. The line ups are always announced around now. The headline is misleading. Sting playing this show has absolutely nothing at all to do with Bad Bunny.

If SNAP benefits vanished tomorrow, feeding 42 million Americans for a month would cost about $7.8 billion. That’s less than 1% of the combined net worth of the three richest men in the U.S. A reminder of how obscene inequality has become and how easily hunger could be solved if we chose to.

People should be required to actually know what they’re talking about before they post. This is in no way “the compact” and while this is alarming in a general way it is a very limited agreement that will have very little impact on the operations of the university.
