Out today: THE CROWN'S SILENCE

I'm delighted to share that my new book is officially out! It traces the British monarchy's involvement in the transatlantic slave trade and colonial slavery over hundreds of years. Please buy a copy, tell your library, & spread the word. bookshop.org/p/books/the-...
Oh my…the poor timing on this one. Andrew M-W formerly known as Prince has ensured that's not gonna happen. Not to mention all the rest of the manacled skeletons in the royal closets.

As the mother of two teenage girls, I’m appalled by this claim. Teenagers may appear physically mature, but they are still CHILDREN—legally, developmentally, and ethically. Minimizing that reality is dangerous.
Yes, @mattyglesias.bsky.social has also argued, in The Atlantic (of course), that older men pursuing sexual relationships with sixteen year olds is not pedophilia.

Brooke N. Newman — The Crown's Silence: The Hidden History of the British Monarchy and Slavery in the Americas - with Cassandra Good — at Conn Ave
For readers of Annette Gordon-Reed and Nikole Hannah-Jones, the shocking untold story of the British royal family’s centuries-long investment in slavery and continued profiting off its legacy—from Elizabeth I to the present—and the monarchy’s culpability in the racial injustice that gave birth to the United States.

So much for the party of individual freedom and small government. The Republican Party is now all in on the police state.
Just to be clear, immigrants are not “invaders” and people standing up for human rights are not “traitors.” People who defend state violence ARE betraying American values.

The Trump admin’s whole case regarding Haitians in Ohio is racism, xenophobia, and lies. There’s literally nothing else to it.

Legal status, proper papers. No criminal record. Employers, neighbors, local leaders say they’re a benefit to the community.

It’s showy, bigoted cruelty, nothing more.
“about 350,000 Haitians will lose their status on Tuesday — ending their right to live and work in the United States legally and putting them at risk of immediate detention and deportation”
"‘Reminds me of Anne Frank’: Jewish seniors are offering to hide their Haitian caregivers as Trump’s TPS end looms"

👇 Also add “women are to be exploited & forced to reproduce”
The reactionary right has collectively written a trillion column inches on "whatever happened to discussing bold new ideas?" - and literally the only "ideas" they've ever had are "rich people should own everything" and "blame foreigners"

As a Texan by birth, I’d like to say to fellow Texans who made this happen: I salute you! Keep making good trouble. 🗳️
Former Texas Lege reporter here. A Dem hasn't held this seat since 1990. Tarrant is the safest of red suburban counties. There is no way the TX and national GOP aren't in panic mode right now.
JUST IN: Democrats flip a red seat in the Texas Senate.

Taylor Rehmet wins against Leigh Wambsganss, a conservative activist who helped lead right-wing efforts to take over TX school boards.

With all early vote, and 95% of precincts, in, Dem up 57/43.

Trump won this seat by 17% in Tarrant County.
