Man I am going to be so annoyed if I have to protest on behalf of the governor I do not like because he gets arrested by the Trump administration for not freeing Tina Peters, who Trump cannot pardon.

I have once again named the correct Final Jeopardy answer based on the category before the clue was read. This is such a weird superpower.

...I'm not sure we technically have a rule against this.
I’ve worked in public libraries for 20 years, today was the first time we’ve had to tell someone they couldn’t bring their chainsaw in the library.

No, listen. I know I wasn't getting any more tattoos until after the new year. BUT HOWEVER my tattoo shop had a flash event at a bookstore so like...what was I supposed to do??? Just NOT get a cute lil cat sleeping on a pile of books tattooed on my body while surrounded by actual books? Be serious.

I cannot WAIT to have a better governor than this.
it’s been pretty funny to see Polis’ addiction to posting completely end any discussion of him as a potential 2028 candidate

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

I will say over and over again that us library folk need to be louder in our support of the Post Office. Because guess what—if they start thinking of USPS in terms of“making” or “losing” money, libraries won’t be far behind.
The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

Also USPS didn't loss money because it doesn't make money because it's not a business and if never makes money to begin with.

It did however deliver over 112.5 billion pieces of mail in 2024 and that doesn't even include packages.

It’s time to talk about my cat. To which you might be saying, “Chuck, I didn’t know you had a cat!” and I’d respond with, “I didn’t know I had a cat either…

This is both unsurprising and horrendous. Saying "we knew this was coming" helps no one - unfortunately we have to do more yelling at our officials.
If new proposals detailed in an FDA memo are put into place, experts told me it would mean the end of annual flu shots. And end of most vaccines for pregnant people. And maybe the end of updates to pneumonia vaccines. And more.

Nice, Costco AND my preferred tire company. Does Costco sell Yokohama, because I have a membership now.
Costco files suit against the government, saying the Trump tariffs are unlawful. The company wants a refund.

Others that have already filed suit: Revlon, eyeglass maker EssilorLuxottica, Kawasaki, Bumble Bee, Yokohama Tire and many smaller firms.

"What's your favorite book" followed closely by "oh, do people still go to the library?"
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

Yeah. They're good.
seriously, it appears that while basically nobody is reading fiction anymore when it comes to 90% of genres of literature, a lot of very horny people must be spending a lot of money on romance novels

Ah, the first really cold day of winter, time for the annual ritual of being horrified by the people on the running path we can see from the house. That guy's wearing shorts!
