If only it had been glaringly obvious that this was the situation *ten fucking years ago*, and that the Labour right were 100% on the side of the Sun and the Telegraph on this stuff: we might not have spent a decade roaring at the left for preventing exactly these clowns doing precisely this shit.

The idea that the most online government hasn't the tweet is quite unbelievable. Which means they're too afraid to say anything.
Keir Starmer's spokesman says they "haven't seen" Elon Musk's demands for a civil war on the streets of Britain.

No plans for the Government to leave X

Why doesn't Trump just give the 40 billion ear marked for Argentina to American farmers to bring down the price of beef?
Rep. Beth Van Duyne: "Trump recognizes that the American people love to eat free American beef, but that beef is expensive and it's only been growing in price. So I think what he's trying to do is strike a balance. He wants to be able to make sure we can get beef for an affordable cost."

This is grim & dangerous over reach.

This is a government that have lost the moral argument & are still selling arms to Israel. Now further cracking down on dissent.

Absolutely the opposite of what they should be doing - so of course this is what the Labour Government choose.
NEW: Home Office announces planned new anti-protest powers, mainly aimed at pro-Gaza protests like those for Palestine Action. Police will be able to consider the "cumulative impact" of repeated protests and potentially order that they be relocated.

I feel it’s very irresponsible and inflammatory to accept donations from extremely partisan pro-Israel billionaires to help wreck your own party, then conceal them from the authorities while booting the pro-Palestine left for antisemitism, while you facilitate the genocide of the Palestinian people.

The success of the far right is not only measured in votes and seats but in its impact on rhetoric, policy and ideology. The fact that a (nominally) social democratic head of government with a huge majority choses to say and do this is maybe the biggest success of the far right in Europe yet.

This is who's dictating and planning to profit from mandatory government digital ID, starting with immigrants and expanding to everyone else.

A desperate desire to live forever in the Vinnick vs Santos debate episode of The West Wing, and an unshakeable, utterly baseless belief that if the centre-left throws enough progressive principles under the bus a civil, moderate, responsible centre-right will emerge to engage with.
The problem with the Ezra Klein view of the world is it's based on the existence of a centre-right and centre-left willing to find common ground. Authoritarians aren't interested in common ground, just power.

We're at the point where the Trump does something worse than Watergate daily, often multiple times a day. And none of it makes news; it's just normal now.
In a less insane time, if it was discovered that the President of the United States said this privately to their AG, it would’ve triggered an all-encompassing, impeachable corruption scandal.

Here, Trump is saying it publicly and it’s just another Saturday.

CNBC: They're talking about the UAE investing some money at the same time they were granted access to some chips. Not saying it's related, but it could be. You're gonna see this again and again in terms of a conflict of interest.
