I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

I have two things I would really like people to internalize about the fashion industry/garment manufacturing, and they are:

1. Mass manufactured clothes are only ever intended to fit "good enough," and;

2. Everything you wear was made by actual human people.

Great breakdown of why every single parent I know who works in the games industry (myself included) will never let their kids touch Roblox
Oh, God, this is one of those "where do I even start" things, because Roblox is, like, *fractally* fucked. They are terrible at content moderation. A lot of the games are rated incorrectly, so kids can encounter graphic content (sex or violence) out of nowhere --

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

3 months ago, Austin told me that he wanted a break from adventures. I didn't know why at the time but it turns out it was because someone had made fun of him for being into trains. This broke me tbh 💔 but after lots of deep chats, he's over it & going to ignore them. So... 1/2

🧵 Most people don't realise there are whole categories of disease transmission they don't have to think about because they've been taken care of by society, e.g. there are laws & inspections & engineering that protect you from diseases that are waterborne (e.g. sewage treatment), bloodborne

IT'S '6-7', COOPER. A GENERATION ALPHA TREND. WHAT THEY CALL A 'MAY-MAY'. IT'S AN ORPHANED SIGNIFIER, NO SIGNS ATTACHED. ONE COULD CALL IT DADAIST, BUT SOMME SAY IT'S TOO STUPID TO BE DADA. IT'S ANTI-MEANING, ANTI-HUMOUR, BUT DAMN IF THOSE KIDS DON'T FIND IT A CRACK-UP.

The thing is the human form is not actually optimal for remaining upright as anyone who has ever had to dress a mannequin will tell you. Big Tech will continue to fail until they accept that the One True Robot Form is Rosie from the Jetsons

My child has entered the reading-the-dictionary-for-fun stage.

Took my kid to see a 40th anniversary screening of Back to the Future. We had a good time but I was distracted by 'jigawatts' and spent far too long wondering if everything 'giga' is instead pronounced 'jiga'.

The episode has appeared. All is well with the world.
AGHAST that it looks like channel 10 is not airing the final episode of Celebrity Traitors UK UNTIL A WEEK AFTER IT WAS AIRED IN THE UK.

It seems the true traitors are channel 10.
I really need the next episodes of Celebrity Traitor UK to be released ASAP because it's my new obsession and because it's the only thing that'll take my mind off how quickly my patience with my kid's school (staff and students) is wearing thin.

Went as the burglar, a costume that the other mums either ignored or looked askance at. Yay, school socialising!
I'm taking my kid trick or treating tomorrow and I think I should have a (simple) costume. Hi-vis vest, black mask and some glitzy jewels or a nametag that reads 'Madeleine'?
