Do get me started
The hilarious thing to me (a 64 yr old American) about the "I could care less" thing is that it isn't actually correct here, either. My teachers pounded that one into me back in the 70s.

Always lovely when a recommendation pays off. My current ‘tell everyone’ is Stephen King’s The Long Walk which I read ahead of seeing the film and hoo boy is it timely.
Finished the Emily Wilson translation of The Odyssey, which was excellent and very readable. I’m told it’s a big improvement over the Fagles translation but it’s been so long since I read it that I can’t say and tbh I think I’ve had enough of Homer for now. (Thx @tracyking.bsky.social )

I am willing to bet women are driving this. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been next in the bar crush and ignored in favour of a man (taller, pushier). I used to be a barmaid so know how the job should be done and bar staff stopped doing ‘eye contact and nod’ acknowledgement years ago.

My Wogan story - It was my first day of work at BBC Broadcasting House, I was 19 & quite nervous. I passed Wogan on the stairs & he gave me a cherry "Morning"

Later that week he stopped me & asked how I was getting on, which was lovely of him because he didn't know me at all.

A class act.
10 years since we lost the great Terry Wogan who, if you didn't know, was the first person to play reggae music on mainstream radio in the UK. I mentioned him in this piece about Dawn Penn's No No No for the @thequietus.com a couple of years back thequietus.com/opinion-and-...

Years ago we tried to watch Schitts Creek, gave up one ep in. Didn’t get it. Last year we tried again, gave it three eps. And then mainlined the entire lot over a few weeks. Obsessed. Truly one of the great sitcoms. Do watch if you never have.
I don't know whether it is the #1 Catherine O'Hara accomplishment but the fact that she invented a manner of speaking that no other person in human history has ever attempted for Schitts Creek and made it seem realistic that her character would talk that way felt like a comedy miracle to me

I was just asked to connect Cilla Black to Stephen King in as few steps as possible and it was way way fewer steps than you might think

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.
