I low-key think that executive counter-knowledge is one of the biggest scourges on and threats to a functioning American society
Every office has an executive tier whose emails are like:

saw on news , , can we replce complianc dept with web 3

and a worker tier whose emails are like:

Dear Jim,
First of all, I *love* this idea! Unfortunately, I spoke with Legal and identified a few issues with this approach. For starters…
Well, it's a little clearer now why billionaires are so invested in technology that produces better written emails.

Of course humanities fields “progress.” We‘ve discarded and superseded any number of ways of doing things. But I’d argue that’s not the GOAL of the field, which (a) people do not want to admit and/because it (b) makes things difficult, existentially!

Look when I say that I had a headache for two days for this, I mean it in the best way — absolutely over-full of thinkers doing some of the most good-faith work I’ve had the pleasure to be a part of.
I think it's likely that I look back on the book launch symposium for Close Reading for the Twenty-First Century as one of the absolute highlights of my career

thanks to @dan-sinnamon.bsky.social , our contributors, and all the participants -- this was so incredible
We are underway. @dan-sinnamon.bsky.social delivers opening remarks at a packed “Close Reading For The 21st Centure” book launch symposium.

Here's another bit of conventional wisdom Zohran completely blew away: His speech was at well above a 10th-grade level. It was complex, erudite, punctuated by deep and fluent references. You don't have to condescend to voters with baby talk! Part of re-establishing norms is speaking like an adult.

It is hard to overstate the stress produced by the incoherence of academic institutions pumping generative AI when they want to play business and then leaving instructors to deal with the results when they want to play school
Cheating with an LLM is the easiest thing in the world for a student to do, but it creates a massive, laborious headache for a prof, if you intend to take it seriously. There’s meetings, emails, discussions, moral dilemmas. It’s just incredibly burdensome, on top of everything else right now.
I had 9 meetings about students using Chat GPT/LLMs on their papers today.

If you want to know why professors burn out, ask anyone trying to teach critical thinking and writing skills to Freshmen....

I'm opening a restaurant called "Hamburger." You walk up to the counter and say "hamburger, please," and, shortly thereafter, you are handed a hamburger. If you say anything other than "hamburger, please," a trapdoor opens beneath you and you drop into The Pit.

one of the things I have come to believe is that the failure state of capitalism is not exactly the material phenomenon Marx describes so much as a kind of nihilism that comes from having enough money to buy anything you are legally permitted to purchase
the american financial elite, all at once, had abandoned capitalism in an attempt to purchase the power of the state.

Actually we have a tool for that already! It's called thinking. We use our brain. It's called brainstorming! Clue is in the name.
