Founding partner at Codeword, helping tech companies with their words. Former editor and journalist. NYC-based.
10 years ago, Codeword got to pilot-test the Budweiser Bud-E... a smart fridge that reorders automatically when supplies get low. We got the fridge and all our orders for free.

So basically, they were beta-testing limitless free beer. It was a short experiment, during which morale was sky-high.
Last month, Anthropic asked if I wanted to test its Claude-powered vending machine in our offices.

One month later: The vending machine business is bankrupt, but morale is higher than ever, we have a free PlayStation—and a new pet fish!

My agency's first coupon campaign is deeply silly but also we're totally serious about it.

If clients are pissed about losing their agency team to mega-merger layoffs, come to Codeword and we'll hire them back. We'll treat them better too. Win-win-win.

Andreessen definitely has the talent and the track record to compete at this level and it's a shame Altman knocked him out in the last round. Otherwise, love this Final Four.
🚨 THE FINAL FOUR 🚨

We’re nearly at the end! 32 candidates have been narrowed down to a nefarious final four. But who will move on to the finals? You must decide!

I also have to appreciate on a pure politics how Hollywood Lib-coded the Knives Out movies are. Every one of them has a level of sneering contempt for conservatives that you just don’t see elsewhere in pop culture and it’s always spot on. Cy Draven might as well have been Royce White.

"data suggests Tesla Robotaxis are crashing once every 40,000 miles, whereas the average human driver in the US crashes about once every 500,000 miles"

that's just really really bad sherwood.news/tech/teslas-...
Tesla’s 29 Austin Robotaxis have crashed 8 times since June, as data suggests they perform much worse than human drivers
That’s a lot of crashes for such a small fleet....

Passion of the Christ, packed theater in Jersey City. Right during the most intense scene, no one is breathing (you know it if you've seen it), a lady jumped up and shrieked "SAVE ME JESUS!!"

It was the worst/best jump scare in the history of film.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

We started watching Black Rabbit, got bored so switched to The Lowdown, and aaaahhhhh it was perfect.

Both shows have a great cast, but one of them also has a great script!

(It's the script, it's always the script, when will the studios figure out it's the script?)
i feel like i haven’t seen a ton of chatter on here about the lowdown which is odd because this site is 90% journalists

I don't see many brand/agency folks here, but yikes this Omnicom/IPG deal is an apocalypse for an ad industry that was already struggling.

Oh hey, it's me in Adweek talking about how brands can keep up with culture (spoiler: most of them should stop trying).
“We’re living in an age where there are 1,000 pop culture flowers blooming” @kmonson.bsky.social said for @adweek.bsky.social. Learn how brands can build systems that move as fast as the world around them: www.adweek.com/brand-market...

I thought I loved King Arthur Baking Co as a baker. As a celiac parent, I want to kiss King Arthur Baking Co on the mouth.

love the idea of everyone putting aside their differences to fight ICE nazis together, like that one scene in The Rocketeer
“When he was arrested, he said, 'I'm ICE, boys,'" Hodges said during a press conference Tuesday. "Well, unfortunately for him, we locked him up."

As a journalist/editor-turned-brand-guy guy, begging media outlets to consider that every piece you publish reflects on your brand. When you publish stupid stuff and stupid people, your brand gets associated with stupidity!

And stupid stuff that gets lots of clicks does the MOST harm to your brand!

It's impossible to build a liberal, or progressive, or equitable, or even a FREE society without universal healthcare. Any policy or politician that doesn't start there is owned.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.
