Hi. I know my presence here has been very light. It will remain so for now. I haven't disengaged from the news; I just need to take care of myself first. I do miss y'all, for what it's worth.

the fascists are looking to rigidly define gender not just to punish trans people like they claim but to lay the groundwork for the oppression of all women. when gender is legally mutable, it is harder to use it to restrict people’s rights.

they want to build a cage around you, made from our bones

More details about the possible CDC.gov shutdown from a contractor working with the CDC:

CDC staffers told to remove "all references to gender ideology" by 5pm today or the website will be removed. Everything "is being delivered verbally." Staffers told not to communicate about this in writing.

‼️ The State Department has REMOVED TQIA+ on their page of recommendations for queer travelers. This page yesterday said "LGBTQIA+" and now just says "LGB".

The federal government is trying to erase trans people from existence.

This dataset is the source of the incredibly limited population-level data we have on trans youth.

I’ve used it, and studies based on it, in reporting and research dozens of times.

It contains extensive data on other public health topics.

This hampers public accountability reporting.
The CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey has monitored the wellbeing of America’s high school students since 1991.

Since 2015, it’s been a vital source of data on LGBQ youth. In 2023, it provided the first ever nationally representative sample of transgender teens.

As of this morning, it’s gone.

This is my red line. I don't care if you are a local activist or a hospital CEO, a shelter administrator or a school teacher or the head of the Democratic Party.

I will not be complicit in my community's own destruction.

Blue state citizen here: One of our senators confirmed Trump nominees so she wouldn’t have to work over the weekend. Be unrelentingly forceful in castigating blue state politicians for their failures and betrayals. Do not trust them to do the right thing without being pushed hard.
I've heard a number of people say, "I live in a safe blue district/state--there's no point in calling my reps since they're already on the right side." Yes, there is: You can call and insist that they be among the loudest voices on the issues you care about, since they can afford to be.

From a journalist friend: Just spreading the word. The CDC is purging data, so people should archive their favorite CDC datasets today, namely ones around race/ethnic diversity, LGBTQ, and reproductive health. Also health data involving climate. The youth risk behavior survey has already gone down.

NOTE: Because Trump purported to fire EEOC commissioners (and the general counsel) — www.nytimes.com/2025/01/28/b... — the EEOC currently lacks a quorum — www.lawandtheworkplace.com/2025/01/eeoc... — and can't vote on anything.

So, this is awful, but, for now, it's just an anti-trans white paper.
1. The EEOC acting chair, Andrea Lucas, has announced that a private business transgender bathroom ban is her top priority.

This comes in the wake of a slew of anti-trans executive orders.

Give your money to trans people directly. Flood their Venmos. Top out their fundraising campaigns. If you know someone connected to mutual aid, give them your money and tell them to use it as they see fit. Cover rent and materials for a group that needs you. Put your money where your mouth is.
donating to national 501c3s is cool but what if you donated to your local trans support spaces that don’t have the reach to get millions to spend on advertising to get millions more
