There is ample evidence that helping others benefits the helper as well as the helped.

Yes, even in capitalism.

If you suspend someone without telling them why, you give them no opportunity to appeal.

and

If you suspend someone who researches authoritarianism and you don't tell them (or anyone else) why, you're going to be presumed to be objecting to their work.

Is it really so hard to be transparent?
False attribution. If a person is suspended it is because of their identity? Could it not be because of their content? I wrote about it here aaron.leaflet.pub/3m52nqqmk322v

Happy side effect of my husband having to quit smoking for his surgery: Several of his longtime smoking friends, having seen him do it, have now determined that they shall do the same.

Because none of them, apparently, thought he could.

(That includes the surgeon, btw.)

instead of saying this was good strategy, maybe senate dems should say: "the republicans were going to kill people by starving them to death, and because we aren't monsters, we decided to let this fight go. We'll keep fighting. Stop electing monsters."

The money is so stacked against us that we have 0% of the Senate representing us.
They did. My god. They are fast tracking the vote.

Every single one of them.

Just fetched my spouse home from the hospital at the start of what has been, and will be, a very long and difficult road to recovery. I am absolutely incensed by the lack of commitment.

I’ve administered medication via a PICC line for the very first time.

I wish I could go back in time and slap some sense into the “oh I could never do that job” kid I was when I started college because dammit, a nursing degree would’ve come in handy.

Canada has just lost measles elimination status. The U.S. will undoubtedly follow shortly.

Elimination means that there is no continuous spreading of measles within the country for a year or longer.

Canada and the U.S. have blown it, and it’s largely the fault of the anti-vaccination movement.
Canada loses measles elimination status after three decades, health agency says

They pepper sprayed a baby. No warning, no reason.

Every last one of them belongs in shackles.
This story now includes video, released by the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, of the baby being exposed to chemical irritants fired by federal agents from their convoy into the car she was riding in with members of her family near 26th Street and Ogden Avenue in Cicero.
Federal officials accused someone of firing shots at agents conducting an aggressive immigration raid led by Border Patrol chief Greg Bovino through Little Village Saturday. No one was injured.
Agents used chemical agents to disperse the crowd, @sigchofor25.bsky.social said.

When I wrote this I started hearing the Persuasions' cover of Zappa's "Any Way the Wind Blows" in my brain, so I went to YouTube to find it so I could play it out, which let me to the HadesTown song of the same name, and anyway now I'm listening to the HadesTown soundtrack for the first time.

They’re wearing masks so they can’t be prosecuted later. As long as they think they can’t be prosecuted, their crimes will intensify. They will torture, starve and kill, as they have already, on greater and greater scale.

Signed, someone who’s covered the unaccountable War on Terror for 23 years.
I’ve come to believe that we need to gather considerable forces and a campaign to demand the removal of face masks by ICE, Border Patrol, FBI and police.

It is a practice in conflict with the principles of transparency & accountability that are central to the concept of democracy.
