If listing cases of 2025 US political violence, one would include the Charlie Kirk killing, the Melissa Horman killing (MN state legislator), and the CDC shooting.
The president omitting Horman and CDC, but reaching back 8 years for a non-deadly shooting to cite, conveys approval of those shootings.

I understand that "Nothing will happen, nothing will change, they won't do anything, you're a fool for hoping" is a way of venting in a dark, hard time, so it is with kindness that I say shut the fuck up. Tell it to your wall or your canary or your right hand, but don't put it in responses to me.

This is right, and I will just add that "Criticism is not advice or correction" is also good guidance for critics.
My response to creators who don't like critics is always the same: You're not supposed to. Which doesn't mean you are specifically supposed to not like them, but you're not specifically supposed to like them, and whether you like them is beside the point. Criticism is not advice or correction.

I hope The Pitt gets a truckload of Emmy nominations, plus the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for giving us 15 episodes.

Seriously, a stellar first season.

I'm not going to stop saying this. We need to stop calling it "deporting." It may not always be fair or humane, but deportation has a process. And it means you're sent back to where you came from. These people are being trafficked and sold to slave prisons. Not deported.

I think "This art that I like shares my politics, of course" is kind of a universal disease across political belief systems, going back centuries, but yes, in the social media era, it seems to ESPECIALLY affect a certain subset of particularly online progressives.
I think part of the issue is that progressives are incapable of separating media that is artistically compelling from media that is politically useful. they believe the two things are identical
also, it appears all of that "you can't trust The Man" programming did like, *nothing whatsoever* to make people less susceptible to authoritarian appeals on a emotive level. if anything it appears to have primed them for it!

I have become not necessarily pro-hypocrisy, but definitely of the view that *some* hypocrisy is an inevitable byproduct of a person or system trying to live up to ideals worth anything. Only saints or total pieces of shit live lives totally without hypocrisy and there’s more of one than the other.

As a former child junior olympic-level runner, I have a few thoughts on the attacks on trans girls in sports. I ran for one of the most competitive teams in Southern California, and people who ran for my have gone on to become professional athletes. And these bans: they're fucking NONSENSE. 🧵

most men simply cannot handle the cutthroat world of email jobs. it requires a level of discipline and self control they're not emotionally equipped for. i work in an email job environment that's 80%+ women (heaven) and each & every man still around is tough as nails, by which i mean cool + normal
There is a great shame among liberals and leftists alike that they do not work low wage factory jobs or live in rural towns because that is Real America, and their PMC jobs just make them sissy cosmopolitans. This is also pretty gendered too.
the post-left weirdos who turned into nazis because the chapo guys weren't liking their replies are all posting that working a low wage factory job is actually great. all of these guys work IT jobs at best or are NEET types living in their parent's house at worst.

There is a type of liberal/left bleakness that manifests itself in a compulsion to announce that nothing that doesn't fix everything means anything. The people who feel the need to keep expressing that are victims of our time (and this medium). But they are also ultimately enemies of improvement. >

The DNC is launching The Peoples' Cabinet, a group of leaders with deep understanding of how our government functions, to speak to the media - and thus, the American people - about what Mr. Trump's administration is actually doing.

No matter your station in life, there is astoundingly little separating you from those men in that cage behind Kristi Noem. No charges, no attorneys, no hearings, no trial. Just conjecture and brute force could be enough to justify completely dehumanizing you, too.

Authoritarianism is a very real threat, but everything the administration is doing is making it more difficult for them to consolidate power. However, the opposition has to mobilize in full force and present a clear alternative if it is to succeed.

The Democrats need to have somebody that is ready to go in front of the cameras and explain to the American people what is going on and how the Democrats can fix it. Like I said, every day that passes is another day closer to 2026. The Dems need to present a coherent alternative now! 5/x

Like every Dem, I have endless gripes about Dem messaging, but we have a genuine, longstanding problem of people literally not believing what Republicans are doing. They don't even believe what Republicans say they'll do!
This is also why a lot of people have trouble parsing the stuff Musk or whoever is doing to the federal government

"Why would you do this? It only hurts people, with no conceivable benefit to anyone!" yes that's why, they like hurting people as an end in itself
the biggest difference between the GOP of, like, 20+ years ago and now is that 20+ years ago, it was the party of "we do evil things because we want to believe untrue things" and now it is the party of "we do evil things because we know they are evil, and we like it"

the entire political project of the american right is to create a hierarchy with protected in-groups and punished out-groups. there is no moral nor political upside in meeting them half way on any of those out-groups. the only people in a bubble are those who deny that hierarchy is their agenda

One of the defining feelings in American life, for decades now, is elites doing plainly criminal shit and nothing at all happening as a result. It is deranging in a way that virtually nothing else is. Media fixates on perceived street lawlessness but shit like this matters much more in my opinion.
