Impossible how good reading is. You mean I just point my face at the paper for a bit and it does a whole update on my brain?

It's not just "consumer smart" it reduces environmental waste, key materials are often mined in slave conditions. The whole tenor of the article is wrong - why is the economy so dependent on us engaging in mass waste?

I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

For too long we’ve been subjected to a disempowerment discourse that asserts “the humanities are dying”. They’re not dying, but there is an effort by governments and corporations to kill them. And yet, the public’s desire to learn and engage with the humanities persists.
"While other universities report that the humanities are shrinking, at Berkeley, the opposite is true. The music major is the fastest-growing major on campus. We are finding bigger classrooms because film is exploding. English is back to the numbers we saw 15 years ago. We are hiring" bit.ly/4ohKuOe
"The humanities really are a resource — a confidence for living in our times.” Dean Sara Guyer on the modern utility of humanities degrees

You don’t have to like Nuzzi or approve of her conduct to understand that Lizza’s choice to publish the material that he is publishing is meant to sexually humiliate her in public in retaliation for disappointing him romantically. The term for that is revenge porn.

There are going to be prominent Democrats and mainstream media voices who insist that we have to "turn the page" and "forgive and forget" and they should all be roundly ignored, if not mercilessly mocked.
It’s crazy to think about the crimes we’re going to learn about after this regime ends.

We’re already hearing about Watergate level crimes every week. Imagine what will come out after it’s over.

We’re going to need a full accounting of all that’s been done in violation of the constitution.

Huge TW for graphic descriptions of obstructed labor and infant death, but if you can stomach that, this is worth reading. Tells us a lot about where we are as a culture. The rightward heel-turn of the birth influencers in question will surprise no one

The war on expertise is exactly what we're currently living through and this article is a prime example of just how dangerous and damaging it is.
My kid had shoulder dystocia coming out, but the midwife solved it pretty quick.

But the war on expertise means we fight against our own living children, now.

Great country.

The thing is that it's also ahistorical. Unless something has gone really really wrong, birthing people have always been accompanied by someone who understood how birth happens. Because death. Death is a thing.
