We need a strong message that we can rally behind. Not DJT, doesn’t work. We need a message to include the moderate GOP and center it around the constitution. We need liberty, justice, and pursuit of happiness where everyone living in America can benefit because this is the American dream.
The Democrats need to empower messengers that the establishment is scared of, people who don’t delight megadonors. Democrats need to stake their claims on a set of strong beliefs, and see if Americans will follow. They need to stop being lawyerly and timid.
@mollyjongfast.bsky.social: "Let’s face it: Woke is good for business." And Democratic politics.

Mt. Rainier earthquake swarm update from CVO:
- the rate of earthquakes of has slowed
- the largest earthquake so far has been a M2.1
- no observed changes of the ground
- swarm is probably associated with the circulation of fluids
An earthquake swarm of little earthquakes (M1.7 and smaller) started early this morning beneath Mt. Rainier. 🌋

Swarms occur under Mt. Rainier 1-2 times a year, and they usually last for a few days and then fade away. The largest swarm occurred in 2009 and it had more than 1000 quakes!

GOP and all their supporters got what they wanted. We tried to tell them, and they didn’t listen.
Sen Lisa Murkowski (R-AK): "This has been an awful process—a frantic rush to meet an artificial deadline that has tested every limit of this institution. While we have worked to improve the present bill for Alaska, it is not good enough for the rest of our nation—and we all know it"

If randomly kidnapping people (including first grade kids) from places of work, education, worship, and immigration appointments and disappearing them without due process to foreign prisons does not meet your definition of fascism, then your definition of fascism is wrong.

What's the stupidest way you've hurt yourself?

“I turned wrong getting out of bed and hurt my back” or “I bent down to pick up a 10lbs dog” are tied.
I tripped over my own feet while walking up concrete stairs and fell flat on my face
What's the stupidest way you've hurt yourself?

Oh I'm so glad you asked! I knocked myself out with a frozen bag of omelettes.

I live with a librarian so this study confirms what I've already known. Libraries & librarians do FAR more to make your neighbourhood safer than the police could ever dream to. Bonus points: libraries don't just make your neighbourhood safer, they make it better. Plus librarians are cute as hell.

Popular opinion: Just leave people alone. You don’t know or need to know what’s going on in their lives. Such a bad take….
Unpopular opinion: I know it's cool to wear your earbuds and carry a book while pasting a disinterested, don't-talk-to-me expression on your face, but I like to talk to the person sitting beside me on airplanes. I liked it when we were willing to be inconvenienced by strangers.

April 25 is #WorldPenguinDay! Here are emperor penguins at Cape Crozier to celebrate, plus fun fact, my colleague Bilgecan Sen just led a study showing that abundance estimates from remote sensing are probably indices of fledgling abundance... not numbers of adults DOI: 10.1111/1365-2656.70025
