It's such a bizarre framing. Labour MPs think taking 450k kids out of poverty is putting the country first! That's why they wanted it to happen! It's not because they personally benefit.
Headline on The World at One just now:

"Sir Keir Starmer has denied putting the Labour Party before the country by ending the two-child benefit cap".

Can we please go back to reporting the actual news, not someone's partisan take on it?

I understood this reference* and I want you all to know that.

But he’s an interlocutor of likely poor faith, and your own bona fides are frankly questionable.

Bossy headline from The Times letting Farage insist his “Hitler was right” racism was just ‘banter’.
If that were true, his politics now would be different and he’d apologise. He’s defensive because this is what he is and always has been and he’s angry with us for knowing that and for minding.

Challenging consensus is healthy *when you bring new evidence*.
RFK isn’t doing that.
Rejecting data without offering better data isn’t scepticism -it’s denial.

If there is only one piece of advice I can give you younglings from the lofty heights of my advanced old age, it's this: put as much money as you can into a pension from as early an age as possible. Your 50s and 60s arrive much quicker than you think.

Given the amount of paddling going on, this work depicting a 16th century "frost fair" is clearly intended as a commentary on climate change.
It’s the exclusive everyone wanted, the story that will win next year’s Pulitzer…

I can reveal London’s giant AI generated Christmas artwork, the subject of much online mockery, is being torn down - and I honestly *genuinely* think you’ll never guess why. www.londoncentric.media/p/ai-artwork...
London's giant AI artwork to be torn down
The bizarre story of why a much-talked-about creation is being torn down. Plus: Docklands Light Railway extension, giant laser stalks the night sky, and more tales of Android phone theft rejection.

The replies in this thread are incredibly validating.
I am increasingly of the opinion that people who change menus and look and feel of computer software just so that you know it's a new version should be personally forced to play tech support to my mother for five months.

The BBC Scotland commentary for Kenny McLean’s halfway line goal is glorious. Stuff of dreams. 🔥

Congratulations #Scotland, see you at the World Cup.

This could only have been more astonishing if it had been the actual winning goal. But it was definitely the cherry on top of the icing on the cake.

#Scotland #ScoDen
Yep, why not score a goal from your own half in the 98th minute?

Strictly BREAKING:

"Due to injury, La Voix has been advised by doctors to rest and, as a result, will not dance in this weekend's Blackpool specials. In line with the rules of Strictly Come Dancing, La Voix and Aljaž will receive a bye through to next week..."

TV: Scotland are hoping to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 27 years.

Me (not really knowing too much about men's football): Oh, the last time must have been that one in the 70s with the famous goal.

TV: Something, something France '98.

Me: THAT WAS ONLY FIVE YEARS AGO!!

Illegal migration isn't tearing this country apart, but our obsession with it is. It's an obsession fuelled by our media and politicians. Both profit from blowing the problem out of all proportion. It's been happening for decades, but never more so than now

Aside from the cruelty of this, I’d just like to know why it’s ok to ignore and disappoint liberal/progressive voters.
Why do governments chase Farage and his voters, thinking that will neutralise them. It’s NEVER worked. He’s leading in the polls and his ideas have ruined us. WTF are you doing?
This is as bad as anything proposed by Reform.

Leaving refugees in permanent limbo and unable to build a new life in the UK would be a complete abdication of our humanitarian responsibilities

Shabana Mahmood is expected to say the era of permanent protection for refugees is over, in major changes to the UK's asylum and immigration system.
