Yes, it does to me too. But I have heard Gen Zs refer to the 1990s as being in the "late 1900s", and while they are technically correct, they make it sound like it was a very, *very* long time ago!.

This is the thing, isn't it? I'm sure I made some distasteful jokes, but I never would have said anything even approaching the reported comments. Not seriously, not as "only indirect" abuse, not as "banter", not as "a naive kid". Simply, not at all. I just couldn't have.

It's a bit like those people that do a racism then use the fact they were drunk as an excuse. I *know* that I could be falling over and would not use those words. They are just not in me.

Many of problematic statements are downplayed as "banter". What he's reported as saying goes so far beyond that I'm not sure the "defence" holds.

My thoughts exactly. Beeb can claim they are not biased against Trump, the line gets out there nevertheless. Probably not a deliberate move, but a happy side effect.
