Reminder that my book is seven years old BUT YOU CAN STILL BUY AND READ IT or get it from the library or something and sequels/prequels at my website and IT'S NEW TO YOU!
You're not "late to the party" when you enjoy an old book for the first time. Books don't have an RSVP deadline. The party started long ago, and guests show up when they're meant to.

I’m not an expert in the law of war, but an order to kill injured people who were not posing a single threat to anyone would seem to me to be a possible war crime.

Sarah Beckstrom seems like she was a wonderful person who had a bright future ahead of her. Such a tragedy.
Sarah Beckstrom's ex-boyfriend told NBC News she dreamed of becoming an FBI special agent.

She didn't want to deploy to D.C.

"She hated it. She cried about it."

But she started visiting monuments and museums and started enjoying it.

May she rest in peace.

National Guard member killed in D.C. shooting remembered for 'heart of gold'
The slain soldier’s former boyfriend recalled her empathy and generosity. “She doesn’t even have to know you and she’ll do anything for you,” he said.

Also, Nuremberg references are a great way to remind people that in the 1940s SCOTUS justices thought their job was to PROSECUTE war crimes, not enable them.

The Roberts Court will clearly be remembered as one of, if not the, worst SCOTUS in US history. Remind them TODAY of how pathetic they are.

I think that somewhere along the way something in Stephen Miller got fundamentally damaged. This is neither an excuse nor a mitigating factor; the dude is genuinely fucking evil and he and everything he stands for should be fought against and stopped. But he is something beyond mere sociopathy.
Since Stephen Miller is in the midst of another of his Aryans-only trantrums, we should note that his family are 20th century immigrants from the shtetl of Antopol (Антопаль) then in the Hrodna gubernia of Russia. Applying his immigration rules, they would all have perished in the Holocaust.
Stephen Miller Is an Immigration Hypocrite. I Know Because I’m His Uncle.
If my nephew’s ideas on immigration had been in force a century ago, our family would have been wiped out.

When a politician says: we’ll deregulate health insurance and send you a “freedom account” check, ask: freedom to buy what? If insurers don’t offer real policies or can cherry-pick only healthy people, that money is a coupon for a store that’s not open.

It's cute, reading all these anguished cries: "when this is all over, these guys need to go to jail!" I remember saying that during Bush I crimes, and during Bush II crimes, and during Trump I crimes.

Guess how many of those guys went to jail.

I am saddened to hear about the National Guardsmen who were shot today…

Even sadder because they were dispatched to DC for no other reason than a photo op for Trump.

These brave men and women should be at home celebrating the holidays with their families and loved ones.

To be clear Lizza’s story is that Nuzzi sat on important matters of national significance for personal benefit and he’s sat on these details until he could personally benefit.

All of DC media needs to be thrown into the sea. Anyone who defends these people is a goddamn clown.

Before I left, I had to work with a DOGE bro on a project, and the one PR of his I looked at was full of AI-hallucinated code. He very obviously just pointed AI at it, and shipped it without checking any of it. They‘re not sending their best.

Everything that DOGE touched, they added visible evidence of their assumption that there is a real live DEI conspiracy which can be fought with lawyers and funding cuts

I don't think I have to explain that hunting down every instance of "LGBTQ" and "nonbinary" from all government software is the result of a homophobic conspiracy theory. It's not subtle.

I've taken a deep dive into the DOGE bro's open source software code commits to verify they never wrote (or even oversaw) any code beyond culture war messaging. It's all trivial stuff like this: taking out the "nonbiary" option on some form.

Being among the first interrogated and ultimately fired by DOGE, I certainly felt we were facing the business end of a right-wing conspiracy theory 🧵
DOGE was not a money-saving effort. It was an effort to chase down and prove right-wing conspiracy theories. They went after USAID to prove conspiracy theories about foreign aid. Then they went after SSA to, again, pursue conspiracy theories about Dems paying "illegals" to vote. 1/2
All DOGE accomplished was purging critical government staff, handing private data to outsiders, and sentencing thousands in developing countries to death by gutting USAID.

I don’t say this lightly: if there were any justice in this world, the people responsible for this devastation would be in jail

Great urgency in reviewing Epstein files. Then silence for three months. Then the July 6 “nothing to see here” memo.

Wonder what they found that led to panicked silence then attempted cover up?
The docs also reveal the number of hours the FBI devoted to the project, which required some agents to work nights and weekends. The FBI paid personnel $851,344 in overtime for working on the Epstein files between March 17 and March 22.

This is one of those things that rarely gets talked about that has had a massive effect.

As fields like journalism, art, and academia were collapsed and living expenses skyrocketed they came to skew increasingly toward people whose families could afford to supplement their income.
If you're ever wondered why journalists seem so out of touch most of the time it's because in order to establish yourself you need to either come from money, marry into money, or be OK with abject poverty and daily financial panic

That third thing is unsustainable long-term
