If you are guessing that Dems who work for other potential 2028 candidates were baffled by this - you are right.

You're not gonna see Pritzker hang out in the Oval w Trump.
Baffling decision by Whitmer advance. She was in DC with the GOP MI House speaker to meet with Trump - if he had stayed in Oval and she'd left, some optics problem. Instead she stood there as Trump signed an EO to get revenge on Chris Krebs and said 2020 was stolen.

Lawyers have a duty to defend our Constitution.

It is an absolute outrage that, in order to curry favor with Trump and continue making their billions, giant law firms like Paul Weiss have abrogated their responsibilities.

Thanks to those defending democracy. We will remember.
More than 500 law firms rally behind embattled peers, declaring that Trump’s crackdown on the legal industry poses “a grave threat to our system of constitutional governance and to the rule of law itself.” But none of the top 20 firms join. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/04/b...

The firms signed a legal brief supporting Perkins Coie, calling the president’s actions a threat “to the rule of law.” The largest firms declined to sign.

Even the Senate Judiciary Democrats have spoken out. This is wild to me.
Schumer’s office told me they didn’t have a statement from him on it yet.
Dan Goldman’s office said they were monitoring the situation. He’s posted multiple times today but not about this.
Gillibrand went straight to voicemail.
UPDATE: Called all my NY reps - national and state, as well as my city councilperson, to ask them to speak out for and fight for the release of Mahmoud Khalil. Here's a quick script if you need one and want to make calls yourself. You can find your reps here: reps.fyi

The reason they're giving him "his due as President" is that they care about the symbolism of being in the room w/ the President of the United States, which they regard as a high honor that makes them better than the rest of us.

It's self-serving snobbery from lazy, complacent high society elites.
Mark Warner on Fox: "I may disagree with the president, but I respect the office of the president. I'm probably not gonna be jumping up applauding a lot, but I owe him his due as president. The president has made great, great progress on border crossings. That's something we ought to celebrate."
